Butterfly Cake with Nest Topper
I’ll admit I am totally into DIY house projects. I am always painting, sanding, or replacing something. It’s something I totally enjoy and my husband tolerates. But nothing makes me want to throw things at him more than when we are working on tough project together.
Never…would I ever…be able to bake and construct a wedding cake with him. That’s what this couple did. The bride baked the cake, which featured homemade lemon curd and fresh raspberry filling, at home. The groom assembled the cake once it was all baked and transported it to the wedding site. Then the cake was topped it with a gorgeous Swiss buttercream frosting and beautiful butterflies. Instead of a topper, the bride chose a cute little bird’s nest. The cake stand was actually a wood round, harvested from the groom’s father’s property. These were used as the cake stand and the centerpieces on various tables.
I suppose the old adage is true. All you need is an icing bag and a dream and you’ll have yourself a beautiful homemade wedding cake. That’s true right?
