Grandview Peony Cake

Grandview Peony Cake

Well, Honey, Bless Your Heart.

I have mentioned my deep and abiding love for buttercream – I’m almost certain of it.  Way back in the days when I was less a spectator and much more a baker myself, I loved the perfection of a perfectly smooth buttercream cake.  And if it tasted good on top of all that beauty?  Well, so much the better.

Jenniffer White of Cup a Dee Cakes in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, is a master at this technique.

We were bowled over recently by her Grandview Peony Cake, created recently for a wedding at the Grandview Inn in Georgia.  This delectable creation features almond cake, enveloped in vanilla bean buttercream, and trimmed with navy blue ribbon at the base of each layer.  The bride, who favored a navy blue and olive palette, requested flouncy and romantic peonies.  Jenniffer lightly dusted the gum paste creations with ivory and champagne tints to make them just a little darker than the cake itself.

There is nothing to add to this cake, and nothing to subtract.  In a word, it is perfection.  Quiet, elegant, Southern perfection.

(Thanks to Jenniffer White of Cup a Dee Cakes for allowing us to feature her beautiful photograph.)
