Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for January 15, 2011

Hola, Friends!

What finds you this January day?  I’m in a cold, albeit sunny, locale, wondering if I’m ever going to get around to making New Year’s Resolutions, while the rest of the world is busy breaking them.  What about you?  How are yours going?

Well, if fitness is any part of your 2012 goals, hopefully I can inspire you to a little bit of moderation in that eating plan, for we are SURE to find some deliciousness as we look around for what’s happening this week.  But let’s look at a little News first:

Last week, we talked about cut backs in weddings because of the economy.  Well, at least one region is seeing couples return to spending a little more.

The Toronto Sun talks about dress trends for 2012.

While some are ready to wave goodbye to the vintage craze, others predict that traditional weddings with an emphasis on romance and old-world charm are here to stay in 2012.

Weeeelllll….we and many of our baker friends would respectfully disagree…but this writer says that “couples aren’t interested in traditional tiered wedding cakes anymore.” The reason?  “Nobody eats the wedding cake.”  Really?  What weddings are these people attending?

Did you know that Justin Timberlake popped the question to girlfriend Jessica Biel in late December?  Hearts were breaking wide open at the engagement, which took place in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  But we’re awaiting the real news:  pics of that ring!

And now for the Sweet and Pretty!

Christen highlighted some absolutely stunning gold cakes this week right here on A Wedding Cake Blog.  We think gold will continue to be a HUGE trend this year.

We all have our favorites, don’t we?  I went in search of my favorite chocolate wedding pretty, and found this lovely chocolate fondant cake from earlier this year.

We love these bouquet charms featured on Borrowed and Bleu…but I love the inspiration even more.  Why not make your own?  I did.  I carried a locket with a picture of my late father intertwined in my bouquet.

Are you ready for so-cute-you-can-hardly-stand it?  Check out this adorable sterling silver bridesmaid bow ring.  From Emmaline Bride.

From Hostess with the Mostess, a NYE wedding that looks exactly like you want it to:  fabulous, elegant, and glitzy.

A beautiful beach wedding that brought a tear or two.  All is right-ness.  From Wedding Tidbits.

We want to wish Polka Dot Bride a VERY Happy Fifth Blog Birthday!  We glean hours of happy sighs from flipping through this luminous corner of the interwebs.  That lovely cake above marks the special day.  Cake by One Sweet Girl.  Photo by Steve Koukoulas Photography.

Have a Delicious Week!
