Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for January 22, 2012

White wedding cake with cream ribbon

Happy…hmmm…well…let me think about it…Sunday!  Happy Sunday, Everyone!

Oh, but we have entered into that part of winter when winter is no longer enchanting.  (Well.  I assume.  I mean, I live in Florida, and I’m going to the beach today.  Hate me if you must.)  But really, I remember this time of year when I lived up north.  Christmas is over.  Spring seems far, far, far, far…  Thanks be to God for Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, and St. Patty’s, or we’d all go stark raving mad, I’m afraid.

Speaking of such things, I love all the little holidays.  Isn’t it just so awesome that in life, there just always seems to be something to celebrate if you look hard enough?

Well, waxing poetic – or at least philosophical – isn’t getting us any closer to Wedding Pretty.  So let’s take a look around, and see what we can find.  But first, we’ll look at The News:

Elizabeth Smart, the girl made famous by her survival of abduction and kidnapping when she was a teenager, is engaged.  Sources say that the groom to be is Matthew Gilmour of Scotland.  Well done, Elizabeth :-)

The world was saddened by the death of singer Etta James, best known for her song “At Last.”  Sung at many, many wedding receptions, we felt that it was right to honor her here.  Rest in peace, Ms. James.

The New York Times discusses some of the “anything goes” trends that we’re seeing in bridal gowns these days.

An excellent article about what to expect when wedding cake shopping, and just what goes into constructing these edible works of art.

When is a cake featured on tech-savvy-website CNET?  When that cake is in the shape of a six-foot tall storm trooper. And delicious to the very last slice, from what we understand.

And now for some Sweet and Pretty:

We’re all a little wistful for summer, and so I thought I’d highlight a few of my favorite beach cakes!  We’ll start with this one that Christen featured just this week, from Cakes by Robin.  Topped with adirondack chairs and featuring a picket fence, we are in love.

A look back at a few adorable cake toppers with a beach theme.  Can’t you just feel the sand between your toes?

A pretty little Disney-themed sandcastle cake that we featured last January remains one of my favorites to this day.

Speaking of Disney, designer Alfred Angelo has expanded the Fairy Tale Weddings Collection with the introduction of Royal Blossoms, adorably detailed flower girl dresses for your littlest attendants.  From Disney’s Ever After Blog.

I LOVE THIS DIY!  Adorable chiffon shoe clips, perfect for bringing unity to bridesmaids shoes if they choose their own…or JUST BECAUSE!  I think I’m going with the “just because” angle ;-).  From Wedding Bee.

This has to be one of the most serene weddings that I’ve ever seen.  I love the grey and white palette, and the seaside setting is just so peaceful.  A small white wedding cake, flounced by creamy white bouquet and a dreamy droopy bow to match.  And cupcakes surround the whole thing.  Fab. Featured on Project Wedding, the cake, by Flour and Flower Designs, was photographed by Rachel Thurston.

From Snippet and Ink, just a lovely wedding. I especially love bride Chelsea’s incredible bouquet, which featured such vibrant colors!  Chelsea’s dress is so pretty, too.  Finally, check out the stationary which the bride, a graphic designer, created!  And the bunting on the invitations matched the reception!  Sigh…and…sigh.  Perfection.

This is the second wedding party today that I’ve seen wear sunglasses. Yesss!  I’m all for it.  I mean, who wants to squint through their vows?  From Ruffled Blog.

Have a delicious week!
