Macaron Wedding Cake — In Paris!

Macaron and Ribbon Wedding Cake

I don’t think that I’ve mentioned in the last five minutes how much I love Paris.

The hubs and I honeymooned there.  Sounds like a no brainer, right? Honeymoon in the City of Love (or Lights, if you prefer.)  But it actually wasn’t our first choice.

We wanted something domestic – in North America more or less – so we didn’t have to hassle with passports and the like. But as we researched, we kept finding super affordable flights to Europe (ah, the good ole, pre-9/11 days…) — until suddenly, we looked at each other, and Read More

Adorable Bow-Accented Pink Wedding Cake

quilted pink wedding cake

I just found my new favorite wedding.  Well, for today, anyway.

This one is adorably quirky, and brings in elements of both the bride’s and groom’s heritages — which, I’m guessing, were Asian and Russian, respectively. My favorite touches?  The ab Read More

Yellow Ruffled Ribbon Square Wedding Cake

yellow ruffled ribbon square wedding cake

Have you noticed how hot ruffles are right now?

I mean, they’ve been hot on our blouses and peep toes (and flip flops) for a while, but in the last year, we’ve seen an abundance (some of my cake artist friends might plead an over abundance) of ruffles on wedding cakes.  From buttercream to fondant, I’d say that ruffles have been one of the hottest wedding cake trends of 2012.  So when you see a LOT of something, it’s always fun to see it applied in a new way.

Enter this lovely cake.

Pink Bow Wedding Cake

Pink Bow Wedding Cake

Sometimes I see simple, beautiful, easy-to-do ideas, and I think, why didn’t I think of that?

I know.  You do too.

This cake is kinda like that, you know?  When I saw this, I thought it was adorable, but even more than that, I thought that it was so do-able.  Like DIY-able.  Basically, you make teeny tiny satin ribbon bows, affix them to floral wire, and stick them into the cake.  Done.

But maybe your thing isn’t bows.  But you could do this with Read More

Brown and Sage Polka Dot and Bow Wedding Cake

Brown polka dot and bow cake

First, let me apologize for the less-than-super sharp picture. But I thought this cake was post-worthy, so I went with it :-)

Isn’t it darling? I mean, we aren’t seeing anything terrifically new or daring here, but what we are seeing is executing beautifully. First of all, I LOVE brown – and it doesn’t even have to be chocolate for me to be happy about it. Secondly, I’m not always a big fan of fondant bows…honestly, most of the time, I’d rather see satin ribbon. But this one is perfect and gorgeous! Scaled exactly perfectly to the cake.

I like the Read More

Pink and Black Ribbon Wedding Cake

Pink and Black Wedding Cake

So. Clearly. This is a display cake.  I thought I’d go ahead and just out that gorilla in the room right up front.

But seriously…even surrounded by perfume bottles, and with a backdrop that is obviously retail in nature…how in the world could I refuse?  Can’t you just SEE Grace Kelly striding up for a slice in a twin set, pencil skirt, and pearls?

Okay, it’s just me.

If you know anything about this girl, you know that I am madly in love with anything classic, and just about all things preppy.  This cakes is all Read More

Black and White Scroll Work Wedding Cake

blackandwhitescroll

Black and white is classic a la Coco Chanel…so obviously a black and white wedding cake is oozing with class and sophistication. This is a three-tiered round cake covered in white buttercream. The buttercream is covered in a gorgeous black scroll work pattern. My favorite part of this cake is the incredible black fondant bow that starts at the top of the cake, and flutters all the way down to the bottom tier. I love how it’s wrapped up like a perfect present..and I love presents!

Bow Wedding Cake

McBryde-Dorion Wedding

It occurred to me that it has been awhile since I featured a straight up classic wedding cake that wasn’t consumed by dignitaries and former Spice Girls.  So today will be that day.

This lovely cake is a replica of a gift box.  This is the sort of gift that I like the receive..three tiers and completely edible.  In lieu of a topper, Read More
