Classic White Wedding Cake

white classic cake

As much as I love showcasing fancy, out-of-the-ordinary wedding cakes every week, sometimes it’s good to get back to basics and show off a classic wedding cake.

This mulit-tier wedding cake is classic in its design but basic it’s not.

The cake features elaborate piping and icing designs of swirls and swags and pearls and more. Read More

Royal Icing Monogram Wedding Cake

Royal Icing Monogram

I am shopping for monogrammed stationery; ergo, I am naming this Monogrammed Wedding Cake Week. I know…it's already Wednesday. But there's time to catch up.

I absolutely adore this idea, especially for a small wedding. But even if your gathering is large-ish, what a beautiful cake! And so much prettier than a Read More

Basket of Roses Wedding Cake

Roses Basket Wedding Cake

I can’t help it. Blame it on living in the mild-weather southeast, but once Christmas is over, I’m on to summer and beach outings. This beautiful wedding cake, with its basket weave motif and full blown roses, shouts “Summer!” to me.

But it could also be shouting Read More

Tiffany Blue Wedding Cake with White Flowers

Tiffany Blue Wedding Cake with White Flowers

I love when old things are new again.

I remember when I was growing up that there was really no such thing as a stacked wedding cake.  It was the era of plastic columns and rigid structural work.  The first few times that I saw the rig that held cakes together, it was kind of like strolling “backstage” at Disney: the magic was gone.  The Mickey Head was off the guy, and he was Read More

Fondant and Applique White on White Square Monogram Wedding Cake

Fondant and Applique White on White Square Monogram Wedding Cake

I love when I find a classic technique or concept, with a totally unique twist.

It’s well documented that, even if bakers get sick and tired of white-on-white-on-white cakes, I am a big fan of them.  I just think a cake that doesn’t use a lot of fireworks, or bells and whistles, but just stands there, with dignity, in white simplicity, is perfection.  I think few cakes showcase a cake artist’s talent and creativity better than what they do with a white on white palette.

This fondant cake is a beauty.  While I’d be extra bowled over if those white designs were hand-piped – they appear to be Read More

Pink and Black Ribbon Wedding Cake

Pink and Black Wedding Cake

So. Clearly. This is a display cake.  I thought I’d go ahead and just out that gorilla in the room right up front.

But seriously…even surrounded by perfume bottles, and with a backdrop that is obviously retail in nature…how in the world could I refuse?  Can’t you just SEE Grace Kelly striding up for a slice in a twin set, pencil skirt, and pearls?

Okay, it’s just me.

If you know anything about this girl, you know that I am madly in love with anything classic, and just about all things preppy.  This cakes is all Read More

Classic Ribbon Cake

ribbon

Let’s just get classic. It’s been awhile since I’ve done an honest to goodness classic gorgeous cake. This is a four tiered round cake covered in white fondant with a white etched diamond pattern. What does it for me is the gorgeous brown ribbon tied around the base of the second tier. Let’s not forget the diamond initial broach in the center. Oh yes…diamonds are a girl’s best friend. I love that this cake is classic but has a little bit of bling. This cake was made by Palermo’s Custom Cakes and Bakery in New Jersey. You should check out their website Read More

Classic White Round Fondant Cake

bea

On my first day of graduate school I didn’t know a soul.  By the end of the day I had two brand new friends and a date for sushi later in the week.  One of those friends was named Bea and she was the first person I’d ever met that owned more than one piece of Chanel.  Not just the kind of Chanel that I had (that my cousin bought me off the streets of NYC from a guy named Paco) but the real kind. Her collection not only included a purse but sunglasses and a pair of shoes.  The good thing about Bea was that she wouldn’t rub it in your face.  If you asked her if it was real she would tell you that it was but other than that she was pretty low-key about the whole Chanel thing.  Another cool thing about Read More
