Flashback Friday – Blake Lively’s Wedding Cake
We all know that celebrity wedding cakes can sometimes be a bit over-the-top and audacious. But not this one. I love the shabby chic simpleness of Blake Lively’s wedding cake, which was part of her Martha Stewart-styled wedding to Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Reynolds last year.
The cake was the centerpiece of a dessert table that was full of the couple’s favorite sweet treats including mini strawberry shortcakes, lemon meringue tartlets, and s’mores bars. Read More
Three Tiered Wedding Cupcake
I have a friend who ADORES cupcakes. No. You don’t even understand. Like, she’s making a living (in part) reporting on cupcakes in a certain corner of the world…and people love her! (Well. She is pretty lovable.)
Anyhoo…said friend…let’s call her Bea…eloped, and didn’t have a wedding cake. She and hubby love exactly how they did things, and couldn’t have been happier with the arrangement. Still, I have a feeling that when she gets a load of this three-tiered cupcake, there’s gonna be some retro wedding cake reenactment celebration stuff going on.
Because, seriously. It’s three tiers. On a cupcake. Omistars, y’all!
Okeey…so logistically, this would be a nightmare. Buttercream overload, and I, for one, am such a klutz that I would no doubt topple it over on the new dress I just bought to wear to this function. But in my fantasy life, this is just…wedding cupcake perfection. ‘Cause everybody gets their own TIERS. And nobody has to share.
Once again, we have the brilliant staff at Martha Stewart to thank for this inspiration. Are you inspired, indeed, to do this? ‘Cause if so, I TOTALLY wanna see the pics. (And click on the link in the Source for the recipe and the DIY directions.)
Apple Wedding Cake Redux
This is one of my all-time favorite cakes that I’ve featured. Why am I providing you with a re-run today, you ask? A couple of reasons:
1. A cake loved should be shared more than once.
2. We will never forget.
So today, although I will not dwell on what September 11 has come to mean to Americans as well as others around the world, I do offer you this apple cake Read More
For the Guys: Chocolate Faux Bois Groom’s Cake
It’s time for another installment in “Brooke Fancies Up Your Groom’s Cake.”
French for “fake wood” (so really, the French sounds ever so much better and we should probably stick with it), the term faux bois refers to a decorating motif. Here it’s made by pressing a wood graining tool into the shiny ganache glaze that coats the cake layers. Since the tool is applied directly Read More
For the Guys: Chocolate Kumquat Groom’s Cake
Boys, I’m goin’ all fancy on ya today.
Oh, sure, I love themed groom’s cakes just as much as the rest of you do. But sometimes, the inner pâtissier in me calls out for something with just a little more refinement, like this incredible Chocolate Kumquat Cake.
Featured on the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings, I don’t figure this would be the grandest wish of your run-o’-the-mill groom. But if you’re looking for a winter-time showstopper with some panache, THIS is your cake. Kumquats, which look like adorably Read More
Confetti Wedding Cake
Shouldn’t a wedding be, first and foremost, a celebration? And shouldn’t a celebration involve lots and lots of confetti?!
It’s ever so much better than rice, in my opinion.
Does anyone ever throw rice anymore? Or for that matter, is anyone using birdseed these days? We used these adorable rice paper hearts confetti, courtesy of Read More
Fall Fruits Wedding Cake
Sometimes, there is just no way to react to a cake, other than….
Sigh.
Isn’t this just simplicity and beauty and wholesomeness wrapped up in a tidy little edible confection? I bring you this cake courtesy of Martha Stewart Weddings. The cake was made by Karen Menning Porter, the sister of the bride. Karen apparently owned Tilly’s Cakes of Neodesha, Kansas, at the time of the post, but I can no longer find a website
BUT – let’s focus on the Read More
Cake Topper Friday: Love Blocks
Raise your hands and shout “yahhh” if you’ve got a thing for Martha Stewart. Let’s face it. There is only ONE Martha Stewart and I loves her. I seriously don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that said they hate Martha Stewart–well maybe people who know her personally–but like her stuff and her style…I just don’t think anyone can hate her. If you hate Martha Stewart style you probably kick puppies. Or, you don’t…whatever.
My point? I do have one. I fell head over heals for this L-O-V-E Block Cake Topper that was found on Martha Stewart Weddings. The topper consists of four blocks spelling out the word love. My favorite part is the gorgeous teal bow that is wrapped around the boxes that coordinates with the fondant stripes around the base. On a somewhat random note I used to have a silver piggy bank that looked just like this topper. Anyone else…or was that just me?
What do you think? Do you share a love for Martha or are you not such a fan? Do you think it’s weird she used to date David Letterman? That’s a couple I can’t see together. Oh well…too bad it didn’t work out. They would have had a gorgeous cake.
M&M Wedding Cake
Insert. Gasp. Here.
This cake is layered with M&M’s. You are probably wondering what kind of creative powerhouse came up with this bad boy? Martha Stewart Weddings…that’s who. I mean really…who else do you think would create this cake layered with chocolatey goodness covered in a hard candy shell?
This cake was featured in the latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings and has been making my Pinterest feed go nuts over the last few days. This is a four tiered round cake slathered in buttercream and layered with rows and rows of perfectly spaced M&M’s…seriously…how do they do that? I adore the soft pastel colors of pink, orange, and yellow because they just scream summer fun. As you know, M&M’s can come in just about any color you can imagine (you can even get them personalized) so you can coordinate them to match your wedding colors. I can see this cake covered in the oh-so-trendy dark purple, white, and gray or black, yellow, and gray. Oh my, the possibilities are pretty much endless.
And most importantly…they melt in your mouth…not in your hand!
Egads, It’s a Cake by Martha Stewart!
I have honestly been waiting to do two things on this blog since we started in December.
- Say ‘egads,” and
- Feature a cake by the goddess of weddings, Martha Stewart.
Today my dreams come true..because LOOK! Read More
