I Had a Blue, Blue Wedding Cake

Blue and Orange Lily Cake

Wow. Blue.

I’ve got to admit. I’m all over this color scheme. It might be a bit much for some..and I can only imagine what my teeth would look like after I chowed down on this bad boy..but it’s kind of amazing. This is a five tier round cake covered in a deep teal fondant and covered in lillies. The twenty-four lilies are actually made from gum paste. That shocked Christen Read More

Black and White Classic Cake

blackwhite

It’s no secret that often times I will post something funky and eclectic over a classic cake. Not because I don’t love the classics–but after awhile they all begin to look alike. However, you can always get me to change my mind when you show me a gorgeous black and white cake. So obviously, I love a tall classic Read More

Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round Up for September 18, 2011

Birch Tree Wedding Cake

Pardon me while I turn down the a/c so I can bake some pumpkin muffins.

Anyone else in a rush for fall to feel like, you know, fall?  Here in the extreme Southeast, we’ve learned to take our fall cues from things other than the rustle of leaves and the cooling of temperatures.  How do I know it’s fall?  Well…lovebugs come back for round two. (Or is it round three?)  Pumpkin patches start to pop up (and we have our pictures taken in folksy settings in our tanks and shorts and flip flops.)  It’s not as hot…in the evening.  Meaning that it dips below, you know, eighty.

So in this weird time, where the magazines are Read More

Grand Red and Black Wedding Cake

Black, red and white wedding cake

The cake I’m featuring today demands your attention.

This is no shy, shrinking violet of a wedding cake.  No demure, “Oh, look how sweet and innocent I am.  Really, just a place in the corner for me.”  No sirree bobby.  This cake declares itself the grande dame of wedding cakes, and expects you to perk up and notice – and use your best posture – when you walk into the reception.

Or is it just me?  You know, attributing personalities to cakes?

At any rate, this cake by Shawna of Flourish Cakes  (follow her on Twitter here) in Courtice, Ontario, is the kind of cake that is truly a centerpiece Read More

Cake Topper Friday: Love Blocks

msw

Raise your hands and shout “yahhh” if you’ve got a thing for Martha Stewart. Let’s face it. There is only ONE Martha Stewart and I loves her. I seriously don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that said they hate Martha Stewart–well maybe people who know her personally–but like her stuff and her style…I just don’t think anyone can hate her. If you hate Martha Stewart style you probably kick puppies. Or, you don’t…whatever.

My point? I do have one. I fell head over heals for this L-O-V-E Block Cake Topper that was found on Martha Stewart Weddings. The topper consists of four blocks spelling out the word love. My favorite part is the gorgeous teal bow that is wrapped around the boxes that coordinates with the fondant stripes around the base. On a somewhat random note I used to have a silver piggy bank that looked just like this topper. Anyone else…or was that just me?

What do you think? Do you share a love for Martha or are you not such a fan? Do you think it’s weird she used to date David Letterman? That’s a couple I can’t see together. Oh well…too bad it didn’t work out. They would have had a gorgeous cake.

Lemon Lime Wedding Cake

lemonlime

Maybe this only happens to me…but I fall in love with bakers. True story.

I fall in love with them and then every single cake I see just kind of blows my mind and suddenly my palms get all sweaty and I kind of want to marry them (marry them in the way one would want to marry a baker I guess) and then I start sending them embarrassing tweets like “Hi..I love your cakes they are great.” And then I spend the next few hours checking my Twitter to see if they’ve replied back while slapping myself on the forehead and muttering Read More

Auburn Wedding Cake

auburn

I am so torn about posting this because I have a shameful secret. I love Auburn.

I know, I know, this is SUCH a crisis because I also live and breath the South Carolina Gamecocks. Like a good South Carolina girl growing up I loved my Gamecocks. I even spent a year after college running the store inside the football stadium. Steve Spurrier knew who I was. Okay, let’s Read More

Rock Candy Wedding Cake

rock candy

I’ve had this cake pinned on Pinterest for months. What kept me from posting it? Well, for a long time I had nothing but the picture and in case you haven’t noticed I like to ramble and what good is rambling if you don’t know what you’re talking about?

Even though it’s been sitting on my pin board just waiting to be published I loved it from the start. It’s a gorgeous traditional three-tiered round cake covered in flawless white fondant. As you can tell the fun doesn’t stop there. To add a little pop of color and some fun to this cake, rock candy was added to the base of each tier. That’s what you can tell from the picture. What you can’t tell just from the picture is that this cake was just a player in a fun and whimsical Read More

Rice Krispy Cake Part Two

RCT

Here’s a conundrum I am having. Perhaps you English majors out there could help me. I know the brand is “Rice Krispies” but if I use it describing a cake does it become Rice Krispy or Rice Krispie? OR, do I leave it as Rice Krispies Cake because technically there is more than one krispie involved in this bad boy. If only I knew how to insert a poll on the blog. Dilemma.

Anyway, on with what we are here for. Wedding Cake. More specifically a brand spanking new version of the amazing Rice Krispy/Krispie/Krispies cake that I featured last month. Only this cake is more official since it comes from the Rice Krispies recipe website! And bonus, it has a recipe so you can attempt to tackle the Rice Krispie wedding cake yourself. You can check out the recipe and picture here. I wonder how many boxes 57 cups of Rice Krispies would be?

Personally, these cakes are amazing and if I attended a wedding or shower where one of these was the cake I would probably ninja kick anyone who got in my way. How do you feel Read More

Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round Up for September 11, 2011

Austin Yellow and Grey Cupcakes

Okay.

So, I know that we’re all about the Sweet, the Pretty, the Happy Endings around here.  And Happy and Hope are what make the world go ’round, and keep spinning.  But I can’t, I just can’t, have that date in my title, without at least acknowledging that on this date, ten years ago, many people lost their lives in a tragic, senseless, pre-meditated way.  And even though I am doing my best today to bring a little lightness to the world, I can’t ignore Read More
