Happy Leap Day!

I wanted to find something unique for today – since we only get to celebrate Leap Day every four years.

Chocolate Wedding Cake

choclate naked cake

It’s that time of year when I think about chocolate – a lot.

I love the holiday season for all the sweet treats that are available and if they’re chocolate, that makes it even better!

Which brings me to today’s featured cake. It’s a naked chocolate cake but what stood out most for me was the scalloped icing.

While we know I’m not a huge fan of cakes without icing if you’re going to serve a naked wedding cake it might as well look gorgeous too. Read More

Naked Chocolate Wedding Cake

naked choclate cake

I have a confession to make – I love Oreo cookies.

Which is probably why I had to choose today’s wedding cake to showcase. It looks like a stack of Oreos. OK, well it looks like a stack of Oreos to me.

I’ll also confess that I’m not a huge fan of naked wedding cakes. I’m too much of a frosting fan to purposely eat a cake that lacks frosting.

However, this naked dark chocolate cake is really stunning because of its lack of frosting. The white icing peeking out between the tiers adds just the right amount of drama to this cake. Read More

Chocolate Strawberry Wedding Cake

chocloate strawberry cake

We’re still enjoy the fresh-from-the-farm strawberries around here, but the season is quickly coming to and end.

And so, I thought it would be a good idea to find a gorgeous wedding cake that incorporated that sweet and juicy summer fruit before everyone stopped thinking about strawberries.

The fact that I found a naked chocolate cake with strawberries is so perfect.

As much as I love frosting on cakes I’m a big fan of the naked wedding cake trend. Especially when the tiers are separated by a lot of icing. That almost makes up for the lack of all-over icing. Read More

One of my favorite summertime fruits is the strawberry! They’re sweet and perfect and can be used in so many ways, even on a wedding cake!

I love strawberry shortcake and today’s naked wedding cake reminds of that sweet treat.

This wedding cake was created with pound cake (of course!) and layers of mascarpone cream and strawberries. I think it might be my new favorite spring or summer wedding cake. Read More

Thanks to the groundhog, it’s official – we have six more weeks of winter.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t start thinking warm and tropical thoughts!

I’ve had enough snow and cold weather to last until next winter so today I decided to find something fun and warm and beach-y to share – and I found this adorable pink flamingo cake topper!

And while the cake topper looks amazing on the “naked” cake featured here, it would also work on a frosted cake. Read More

Naked Red Velvet Wedding Cake

naked red velvet

If I had to choose just one cake flavor to eat for the rest of my life – the horror! – it would be red velvet.

The first time I had red velvet cake I fell in love instantly. The combination of the not-too-sweet cake with the cream cheese icing is pure perfection.

But today we’re talking about a naked red velvet wedding cake! Read More

White One-Tier Wedding Cake

one tier cake

There’s something to be said for an elegant, one-tier wedding cake.

With a smaller cake there’s no muss, no fuss but the cake can still steal the show.

While I’m a fan of big, elegant and fancy wedding cakes I also like the smaller cakes.

Whether you’re hosting a small, intimate reception and you don’t need a big cake, or you’re planning on serving other desserts (cupcakes, a dessert bar, or maybe a cheese wedding cake) – a one-tier cake can be perfect for so many reasons. Read More

Bundt Wedding Cake

bundt cake

I’m always looking for great non-traditional wedding cakes – something out of the ordinary and unique.

I think today’s cake fits that description.

I give you the “bundt cake wedding cake.”

Now, when I think about bundt cakes I think about birthday cakes with chocolate glaze drizzled on the cake. I have never thought about a bundt wedding cake. Until now.

I love the simplicity of this cake – there’s no muss, no fuss. It just a two-tier bundt cake frosted with simple white icing drizzled down the sides. Read More
