Black Wedding Cake with Cascading White Flowers

black cake with white flowers

It’s not secret that I’m a fan of dark and dramatic wedding cakes – especially those that use black icing.

That is such an unexpected choice for a wedding cake and it’s also perfect when you want to make a statement with your cake.

Of course a dark cake needs something bright to make it pop, and we love the addition of a cascade of bright white blooms. Read More

One-Tier Rose Wedding Cake

rose one tier

I love roses. They’re one of my favorite blooms, especially when it comes to wedding flowers.

In fact, my wedding bouquet was made of roses and I used roses on my 8-tier wedding cake.

Today’s cake is a bit more simple – with just one tier – and much more rustic than my over-the-top early-2000’s cake. Read More

Naked Bundt Cake with Flowers

bundtcake1

Ah, bundt cakes. The ubiquitous cake of the 1950s and 1960s.

They’re so retro that they’re cool again – just ask my mom. She loves to bake bundt cakes for family birthdays, complete with homemade chocolate drizzle.

Imagine having a bundt cake as your wedding cake – now that would be cool. Plus, they’re basically the original “naked” cake, with only a drizzle of frosting. Read More

Floral Wedding Cake

floral wedding cake

I’m a big fan of fresh flowers on wedding cakes.

My own wedding cake was adorned with bunches of Black Magic roses and those dark red blooms made the white cake really pop!

Today cake goes floral in a really big way!

The three tier cake is almost taken over by bright flowers, but oddly enough it works without being “too much.” Read More

Summer Wedding Cake

cake with flamingos

Strangely enough (or maybe not so strangely considering my love for all things warm and tropical) I adore flamingos.

Yes, they’re odd looking – tall, pink birds – but they make me think of warm climates like Florida. Which makes me think about summer.

So it seems only fitting that I am in love with this summer-themed cake, made complete with the addition of adorable flamingos. Read More

Wedding Cake with Garden Flowers

roses cake

I love this time of early summer – a couple weeks after all the flowers have been planted, when they’re still bright and blooming.

My backyard looks like a flower shop with pots and containers full of pink and purple blooms.

Which brings me to today’s wedding cake – a lovely two-tier confection topped with fresh garden flowers. Read More

Pretty in Pink Wedding Cake

peach cake

I wasn’t always a fan of the color pink. It took becoming a mom to two girls to really bring me around to the many shades of pink.

I love seeing different pinks used in wedding cakes – and it always reminds me of the line from ‘Steel Magnolias’  when Shelby says “My colors are blush and bashful” and her mother responds with “Your colors are pink and pink.” Cracks me up every time.

Today’s cake is a light peachy-pink hue and it’s absolutely perfect for a spring or summer wedding. Read More
