Cookie-Trimmed Chocolate Wedding Cake

If you’d like to have your cake and eat your cookies too, then I think this is the perfect wedding cake for you.

Who needs mountains of sugar flowers and miles of ribbon and piped royal icing?  I can’t think of a garnish more perfect for dessert than another dessert.

Here, chocolate buttercream, dipped and swirled in old fashioned, homemade abandon, covers a simple three tall-tiered wedding cake.  But not only is the chocolate buttercream yummy; it serves as delicious glue for chocolate cookies, which are white-iced and rainbow-sprinkled.  The whole effect makes me want to grab a huge tumbler of milk and dig right in.  What a completely fun cake!

I wanted to feature a cake today that was sort of an homage to summer’s last big hurrah.  After all, it’s still summer. It’s too hot to call it fall yet, and besides, we haven’t hit the equinox. :-)

First, let me apologize for the less-than-super sharp picture. But I thought this cake was post-worthy, so I went with it :-)

Isn’t it darling? I mean, we aren’t seeing anything terrifically new or daring here, but what we are seeing is executing beautifully. First of all, I LOVE brown – and it doesn’t even have to be chocolate for me to be happy about it. We kept seeing the term “steampunk,” and not being so much in the know (or rather being too busy to care about being “in the know”) I had no clue what this meant.  And so I Googled it.
