Nautical Love Wedding Cake
A couple of months ago, I talked about the fabulous Cakes By Beth and her equally fabulous 2012 Cake Collection. I promised more gorgeousness from Beth, didn’t I? Well, today is the day, Cake Fans!
While I absolutely ADORED Beth’s Gothic Roses and Birdcage Cake (especially right in the middle of Downton Abbey Fever hitting us here in the States in FULL force), I really, really fell in love with this Nautical Love Wedding Cake immediately. Oh, and I can tell you exactly why, no doubt. If you’ve spent anytime here on A Wedding Cake Blog, you’ve figured out that I am a Florida girl, and lover of all things beachy and water-related. My happy place is staring out at the Big Blue Ocean. I would SUPER be that bride with seashells adorning her wedding invitations (in fact, I was.) So my love for this cake was instantaneous. Love at first sight. That Beth used my favorite color – blue – and lots of shades of it, with awesomeness STRIPES and a very cool rope motif…well, it was icing on the cake. (I had to. I had to go there.)
And one of my favorite things about the collection? Every cake had corresponding cookies or cupcakes, which demonstrate an extension of each theme brilliantly. I love LOVE the marbelized heart!

Brown and Sage Polka Dot and Bow Wedding Cake
First, let me apologize for the less-than-super sharp picture. But I thought this cake was post-worthy, so I went with it
Isn’t it darling? I mean, we aren’t seeing anything terrifically new or daring here, but what we are seeing is executing beautifully. First of all, I LOVE brown – and it doesn’t even have to be chocolate for me to be happy about it. Secondly, I’m not always a big fan of fondant bows…honestly, most of the time, I’d rather see satin ribbon. But this one is perfect and gorgeous! Scaled exactly perfectly to the cake.
I like the Read More
Fondant and Applique White on White Square Monogram Wedding Cake
I love when I find a classic technique or concept, with a totally unique twist.
It’s well documented that, even if bakers get sick and tired of white-on-white-on-white cakes, I am a big fan of them. I just think a cake that doesn’t use a lot of fireworks, or bells and whistles, but just stands there, with dignity, in white simplicity, is perfection. I think few cakes showcase a cake artist’s talent and creativity better than what they do with a white on white palette.
This fondant cake is a beauty. While I’d be extra bowled over if those white designs were hand-piped – they appear to be Read More
Cake Topper Friday: Tiara Wedding Cake Topper
Now, seriously…why didn’t we think of this? Brill!
So…we all need to be honest here, right this minute. And that is to say that if we had our way, we’d ALL get the chance to wear little tiaras and crownlettes (is that a word? I don’t think so) like this. I personally would wear mine while grocery shopping and vacuuming. Heck, I already wear my pearls for those activities, so why not?
This is a great cake anyway, all white on white, round on square, with a perfect swag of fondant doing a great fabric impression. The piping is exquisite, the decorations are just enough Read More
Crystal and Pink White Snowflake Cake
I know that my friends and family in other parts of the country are rrrreeeealllyy super hoping that winter spread its last hurrah recently, when the Facebook posts about falling snow were coming thick and furious. So to bid adieu (hopefully) to the white stuff, here’s a reminder of all that is enchanting and sparkly about it.
There’s just something about a snowflake cake!
When I saw this gorgeousness from Rachael Teufel and Company at Intricate Icings, I knew I had to feature it. The cake was the perfect centerpiece for a breathtaking New Year’s Eve wedding in Colorado. And those aren’t Read More
Hand Painted Tattoo Wedding Cake
I ran across another cake by Becky at Consumed by Cake, which led me to a little digging (I simply had to know more about her lovely work), which led me to brashly introduce myself to her when I found this incredible hand painted tattoo wedding cake.
The introduction went something like this:
“Hi, my name is Brooke, and I am in love with your cake.”
Becky graciously responded to my fawning and gushing, and sent me some darling details about this one. This was, it seems, her first “international” wedding cake! The couple, from Belgium, saw Read More
Monogrammed White Fondant Cake with Purple Ribbon
My love of monograms is well documented, as is my love of white on white cakes. And actually, come to think of it, so is my love of Renay Zamora and Sweet Face Cakes.
But I never tire of any of these elements, or of Renay and her beautiful work.
Renay tells me a lovely story about this cake. She and the mother of the bride had a rather random connection. They had served on their church’s worship team, but hadn’t seen each other in years; however, they recognized one another immediately when they met at Read More
Pink and White Orchid Wedding Cake
I have a friend from my childhood who married well. Like…her family went to Hawaii last month and are in Florida this week. Sure, they are both business trips for her husband’s work…but color me jealous because I have to scrimp and save for end tables from Ikea. This is not to say she married for money because she didn’t…she just got super lucky in the rich husband department.
Anyway, while looking through her family photos of their Hawaiian vacation I found myself longing for a glass of pineapple juice and a vase full of hibiscus flowers. Since that won’t work we’ll just post this lovely cake that Read More
Gold Wedding Cakes
It’s 2012 and it’s time to start saying “that was sooo 2011″ about everything that we had to have eleven days ago but now is soo not cool.
What was hot in 2011 and (I think) is going to make a strong presence again in 2012 is gold. Gold, gold, gold. I love it. So I decided that for a little hump day treat I would feature some of my favorite gold cakes that have been clogging up my Pinterest file.
Until recently gold got a bad rap. I blame the 80’s and gold lame’ dresses (I had one..and matching black shoes with a gold lame’ bow) They were Sam & Libby. Don’t hate. Now Read More
Classic Ribbon Cake
Let’s just get classic. It’s been awhile since I’ve done an honest to goodness classic gorgeous cake. This is a four tiered round cake covered in white fondant with a white etched diamond pattern. What does it for me is the gorgeous brown ribbon tied around the base of the second tier. Let’s not forget the diamond initial broach in the center. Oh yes…diamonds are a girl’s best friend. I love that this cake is classic but has a little bit of bling. This cake was made by Palermo’s Custom Cakes and Bakery in New Jersey. You should check out their website Read More
