Circle Wedding Cakes

Think of a traditional wedding cake, and chances are, you will immediately envision a tiered white cake with round layers. Round, or circle, wedding cakes are the standard for tradition. Whether the layers are separated by columns, or rest one upon another, it is safe to say that the majority of tiered cakes favor layers that are round in shape. In recent years, bakers have added interest to the otherwise traditional (and sometimes unexciting) profile of a round cake by stacking layers that are very similar in size, or by varying the height of various layers. But regardless of the size and height, circle wedding cakes are here to stay. And what could be more appropriate to signify and celebrate unending love, than the circle?

Miniature 3D Wedding Cake

3D Cake

What do you do when you’re having a small wedding, or if you’re eloping?  Do you forego the cake altogether?  Well, you don’t have to.

I thought this cake was adorable at first glance.  I think my favorite thing about it is the “mixed media.”  The artist paints a floral motif, but then pipes some stems in a matching green for emphasis.  She paints flowers, but then affixes fondant flowers as well.  The combination of the painting and the piping and fondant work Read More

Retro Bubble Cake

cool

I love it when a cake can look cool AND gorgeous.  The two actually don’t go together as much as you might think.  Cool and unique cakes are usually just that..cool and unique.  Very rarely does a cool and unique cake take your breath away like this one does.

I love this cake made by The Pastry Studio in Daytona Beach, Fl.  This cake was actually used as a birthday cake, however, I think it could transition from birthday to wedding seamlessly.  This cake is a two tiered round cake covered in light blue fondant.  The bubbles come in blue, yellow and purple and are also made from fondant.  I love how to circles vary is size to add a lot of interest to the cake.  My favorite part of this cake is the single purple flower.  It is just gorgeous and really takes this cake from great to outstanding.

Rose Cake

rosette

Sometimes cakes are too pretty to eat. Seriously, I would have an awful time eating this one. It’s just that gorgeous.

This cake was made by Mary from Apron of Grace for her neighbor’s birthday. While this cake might be a bit small for a wedding cake, Mary also states that the design would be lovely on cupcakes and I agree. I also think these sweet rosettes would be amazing on a three Read More

Rose Wedding Cake

deserts

Sure..have your wedding cake, your chocolate cake, cream puffs, strawberry cake, cheesecake and …pumpkin pie? And eat it too.

I’m not sure if I have ever seen this many desserts at one wedding…but…you know…why not? Desserts are kind of amazing yes? The highlight of this dessert table is of course the three-tiered white wedding cake adorned with deep red roses. The cake is a traditional three tiered round cake covered with Read More

Sixlet Cake

sixlets

Here are things I like in no particular order:

1. Cake

2. Chocolate Covered Candy

3.  Cakes covered in Chocolate Covered Candy

Oh my…have my dreams come true? Yes, yes I think they have.  Oh wait a second…is that a double…no, triple height tier?  Yes, yes I think it is.  I’m kind of amazed.  While this cake truly screams BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!  I think with a change up in Sixlet colors and sprinkles this could make an awesome wedding cake.  I have to admit I wasn’t sure what Sixlets were exactly but according to Heather at Sprinkle Bakes they are basically round M&M’s that come in a bunch of fun colors.  I also can’t imagine the steady hand that put all those Read More

Oreo Cake

oreo

I saw this on Pinterest a few months ago and I pinned it but never thought of it again.  In fact I had convinced myself that I already blogged about this just cake and just spent about 15 minutes looking through the archives just to check.  I didn’t and I kind of shocked myself.

An Oreo cake.  Seriously…where is the milk?  Because I am ready to twist and dunk thank you very much.

Surely the creator of this amazing creation must be touched by an angel.  That is true if you consider that the creator of this cake is Kevin Sharkey…who, by the way, Read More

floral_wedding_cake_topper

SERIOUSLY. Where did the year go and how is it October??

Zen-Inspired Wedding Cake

Zen Cake

I super need some Zen today.

I am running a half marathon tonight – my first ever race, and I pick a half marathon – and I’m a little nervous about it.  My poor family.  I’ve been a little on the crabby side this week.

But then I remembered that I had this lovely, Zen-inspired cake tucked away in my “favorites” file for just the right time…and lo and behold, here it is.  Just the right time.

Just looking at this cake calms me the heck down.

Isn’t it elegant?  Four tiers, trimmed in black, Read More

Purple and Gold Wedding Cake

purple

There is a small college in my town and their colors are purple and gold.  Every Saturday during football season I see cars and people covered head to toe in purple and gold.  This cake is for them…and anyone else who likes purple and gold.

I love, love, love the deep purple almost eggplant-y flowers.  A few years ago my best friend, who loves purple, was getting married and I desperately tried to convince her to let us wear eggplant-colored dresses.  This may have been selfish because I was going to be eight months pregnant at the time of her wedding and wanted a slimming color.  For some reason Read More
