Circle Wedding Cakes

Think of a traditional wedding cake, and chances are, you will immediately envision a tiered white cake with round layers. Round, or circle, wedding cakes are the standard for tradition. Whether the layers are separated by columns, or rest one upon another, it is safe to say that the majority of tiered cakes favor layers that are round in shape. In recent years, bakers have added interest to the otherwise traditional (and sometimes unexciting) profile of a round cake by stacking layers that are very similar in size, or by varying the height of various layers. But regardless of the size and height, circle wedding cakes are here to stay. And what could be more appropriate to signify and celebrate unending love, than the circle?

Silver Cakes

Silver and Roses Wedding Cake

Last week I highlighted my favorite trend for 2012: gold cakes.  This week I’ve decided to go to the opposite end of the metallic colored spectrum…silver.  While gold is making a resurgence, it’s trusty friend silver is still holding strong.  It’s like chocolate and white chocolate.  White chocolate might be awesome when you first discover it slathered over pretzels or strawberries.  Then months go by and the white chocolate gets a little old and you need to go back to your old standby…chocolate.  Or in this case…silver.  That analogy was pretty bad.  So I scoured Read More

Gumpaste Flower Cake

gumpasteflowers

This cake makes me think of the Roaring 20’s.  I am not sure why…but to me it just seems like it should be saying, “Hello friends, welcome to my boudoir.  Do you see me?  I’m covered in pearls and pink”.  Of course cakes don’t talk…but…if they could I bet that’s what this one would say.

This cake was made by Mary from the blog Apron of Grace.  We’ve featured her on here before with her Rose Cake a few months ago.  One of my favorite things about Mary is she tries to use all natural ingredients in her food as much as possible.  Let’s face it, sometimes you just need something processed.  I love this cake not only because it speaks to me in a 1920s accent…but it is the flowers that set me Read More

Hola, Friends!

Well, if fitness is any part of your 2012 goals, hopefully I can inspire you to a little bit of moderation in that eating plan, for we are SURE to find some deliciousness as we look around for what’s happening this week.  But let’s look at a little News first:

Last week, Read More

Pink and Black Ribbon Wedding Cake

Pink and Black Wedding Cake

So. Clearly. This is a display cake.  I thought I’d go ahead and just out that gorilla in the room right up front.

But seriously…even surrounded by perfume bottles, and with a backdrop that is obviously retail in nature…how in the world could I refuse?  Can’t you just SEE Grace Kelly striding up for a slice in a twin set, pencil skirt, and pearls?

Okay, it’s just me.

If you know anything about this girl, you know that I am madly in love with anything classic, and just about all things preppy.  This cakes is all Read More

Gold Wedding Cakes

Gold-Embossed-Cake_thumb

It’s 2012 and it’s time to start saying “that was sooo 2011″ about everything that we had to have eleven days ago but now is soo not cool.
What was hot in 2011 and (I think) is going to make a strong presence again in 2012 is gold. Gold, gold, gold. I love it. So I decided that for a little hump day treat I would feature some of my favorite gold cakes that have been clogging up my Pinterest file.

Until recently gold got a bad rap. I blame the 80’s and gold lame’ dresses (I had one..and matching black shoes with a gold lame’ bow)  They were Sam & Libby.  Don’t hate. Now Read More

Tree Wedding Cake

tree

A few years ago the hubs and I decided to tighten the purse strings.  The first thing to go?  Our way too expensive satellite.  And we never looked back.

That is until I realized that we could get those bunny ear antennas and I could still watch One Tree Hill.  Last night I pulled out those bunny ears and got to watching the very last season premiere of One Tree Hill.  In honor of that Read More

Classic Ribbon Cake

ribbon

Let’s just get classic. It’s been awhile since I’ve done an honest to goodness classic gorgeous cake. This is a four tiered round cake covered in white fondant with a white etched diamond pattern. What does it for me is the gorgeous brown ribbon tied around the base of the second tier. Let’s not forget the diamond initial broach in the center. Oh yes…diamonds are a girl’s best friend. I love that this cake is classic but has a little bit of bling. This cake was made by Palermo’s Custom Cakes and Bakery in New Jersey. You should check out their website Read More

Happy New Year, Everyone!

Yes, I know that technically, I’m a full week behind.  And I know that technically, today is the Epiphany, and the end of Christmas, and not the New Year.  But is anyone else having a hard time cranking up the old machine again, getting on the horse?  I blame Read More

Happy Bridal Show Season!

Most of y’all who are reading us know this, but for those who don’t…this isn’t exactly the hottest time of the year for the wedding industry.  So, in a creative attempt to keep themselves busy, many vendors get together during the winter months and have bridal shows, so that prospective brides and grooms can meet vendors, learn about trends, and maybe even win a cool prize or two.

Last November (where does the time GOOOO?), I attended the Downtown Disney Resort Area Hotel’s Bridal Stroll.  What a neat event!  We saw Read More

Chocolate Lollipop Cake

lollipopcake

Oh. my. goodness.

To be fair I had another post planned for today from Maki’s Cakes. While I was scrolling through the Cake Gallery I saw this one…stopped dead in my tracks…fainted, eventually recovered and decided to feature this one instead.

This is a four tiered cake that embraces the square/round combination.  I’m not usually a fan of the some-tiers-square-other-tiers-round kind of thing, but I actually love how the square flanks Read More
