Circle Wedding Cakes

Think of a traditional wedding cake, and chances are, you will immediately envision a tiered white cake with round layers. Round, or circle, wedding cakes are the standard for tradition. Whether the layers are separated by columns, or rest one upon another, it is safe to say that the majority of tiered cakes favor layers that are round in shape. In recent years, bakers have added interest to the otherwise traditional (and sometimes unexciting) profile of a round cake by stacking layers that are very similar in size, or by varying the height of various layers. But regardless of the size and height, circle wedding cakes are here to stay. And what could be more appropriate to signify and celebrate unending love, than the circle?

Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for June 26, 2011

Individual Cakes

Boys and Girls – the cruise was awesome!  Three days and nights of beaches, clear, turquoise water, cocktails, and pampering – and not a child in sight! (well, not a child of mine in sight, anyway.)  It was truly a magical time, bonding with the girls, having a good time relaxing, and recharging.

So, back to life, back to reality this week.  But not for long, as I head to one of Florida’s premiere Read More

Traditional Cake with Lenox Cinderella Topper

cinderella topper

Let’s take a break from the nontraditional cheese cakes of recent times and go back to an old school classic wedding cake. This is a round, four tiered cake with a cream colored butter cream icing. The deep purple ribbon around the base gives it a pop of color and the three purple and white roses add a splash of sophistication.

My favorite part of this cake is the adorable Read More

Cake versus Cupcake: The Smackdown

In this corner we have the traditional wedding cake.  The modern wedding cake was introduced in the 20th century and the tiered wedding cake became popular in 1902.

In the other corner we have the cupcake.  The cupcake can actually be traced back to 1796…over one hundred years before the first modern wedding cake.  Their popularity at weddings only happened in the 2000’s as cupcakes became trendy.  According to Wikipedia, the cupcakes first gained publicity in 2001 after Magnolia Bakery in New York City was featured on an episode of Sex and the City.  Thank YOU Carrie Bradshaw.

A dilemma many modern brides are having is the great debate between cupcake versus cake.  Which one do you choose?

Well, let me break it down for you:

Navy Blue Flower Cake

Wow oh wow oh wow – what a week!  So I don’t know about you, but my fun this week included a cruise and a concert!  I need a vacation from my vacation.  While gone on the cruise, we even got to witness a wedding on the ship – with the entire wedding party dressed in white!  Now there’s a persuasive bride right there.

We are officially into the swing of summer in these parts.  The kids are out of school, the pool and beach are packed, and the summer Read More

Cascading Pink Flower Wedding Cake

Pink Cascade Flowers Cake

Wedding trends come and wedding trends go, but since the dawn of the Martha Stewart age, be-flowered cakes seem to be here to stay.  And I’m just fine with that.

When I saw this beautiful cake by Custom Cakes of Savannah, Georgia, I knew we had to feature it.  Four stacked tiers, covered with smooth white fondant and covered Read More

Cake Topper Friday: Handmade Bird Cake Topper

for the birds

If one thing is “hot’ this wedding season it is birds.

In real life I am terrified of birds. However, you put those bad boys on a wedding cake (or anything really) and I am suddenly in love. Much like I was when I saw this adorable wedding cake.

This is a three tiered round wedding cake frosted with delicious buttercream. I have the overwhelming urge to stick my finger in it and take a big lick. The front of the cake Read More

Rosette and Flower Wedding Cake

rosettes

When this photo popped up on flickr today I almost fell out of my chair.  Just LOOK how gorgeous it is.  The flickr page gave me little info so I knew I had to go digging…and digging I went.

I found the baker of this beautiful cake to be Victoria of Victoria Made.  Much to my surprise we featured another one of her beauties last month.  Check out that other post and decide which one is your favorite.  It’s difficult for me to choose but I think I’m sticking with this one.  I love the light blue and white color scheme.  This cake includes a double height tier at the base (a new trend which I am loving lately) that is covered in Read More

British Invasion Bridal Brunch cake

Oh, are you having summer attacks, too?  I don’t know if it’s the cruise I’m about to take, or the vacay that’s coming up in a few weeks, or my close proximity to the beach, but I have a wicked case of the Summers!  Right now’s the right time to be relaxing by the pool, icy cold drink in hand.  Makes for a difficult work week.  Well.  Except that I work with, you know, Read More
