Rustic Wedding Cake with Roses
As we get out of the Christmas holiday season and head toward the next major holiday – Valentine’s Day – let’s talk about wedding cakes that ooze romance.
Like today’s cake.
This three-tiered cake is delicate and pretty and romantic, thanks to the color palette and the addition of some gorgeous roses. Read More
White Cake with Floral Cascade
As much as I love the non-traditional cakes embellished with candies or even naked cakes with minimal icing, when it comes down to it I’m still a sucker for a traditional wedding cake.
To me that means a gorgeous and simple white cake with fresh flowers.
You really can’t get any more classic than that unless you add an “old fashioned” bride and groom to the top of the cake. But I’m OK with just fresh flowers. Read More
Cute Favor Find: S’mores Kit
This week, I've been more about the edible favors than about the cakes. It just seems the right thing to do, yes?
We'll get back to featuring sumptuous wedding cakes after the first of the year, but in the meantime, check out this adorable S'mores Kit. It's just perfect for a rustic wedding, or a fall affair. Even winter weddings in warmer climes might involve a campfire or two.

Recipe and DIY: Southern Living 2012 White Christmas Cake
It will come as no surprise to regular readers of A Wedding Cake Blog that I am an avid Southern Living magazine fan.
The world stops once a month when an issue comes. I peruse every feature, and file away recipes for that week's menu or upcoming party, and I dream — and sometimes use — the travel advice on the pages.
So I look forward every year to the December issue, and what has come to be known as “the big white cake” on the cover.
This year's big white cake is beautiful in its simplicity, and I applaud the powers that be who chose it, because it's the perfect all purpose white cake. Perfect for birthdays, perfect for weddings.
We've gotten so fancy, haven't we? And there's nothing wrong with fancy. But every good cook should have a very basic, completely perfect cake in their repertoire, and this is a good candidate for that job.
The cake — Mrs. Billett's White Cake — is done up in lovely, minimalist fashion with white buttercream and fondant snowflakes. I was excited to share this with you because it would make a sensational winter wedding cake, and the fondant snowflakes are easy AND spectacular (which just happens to be the perfect combo IMO.)
Find the recipe here. Find the fondant snowflake DIY here (this one's a video.)
Ah, Southern Living. I love how fabulous you continue to be.

Is your wedding your “happily ever after” moment? Then you should totally have this cake topper, n'est pas? Cinderella, in fine Lenox china. Fantastic.
We've actually featured a post with this topper here, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to share this beautiful close up with you – and a source where you can buy it for yourself! Not only would this lovely fine china figurine serve as a beautiful memento of your special day, but it's Read More
Cake Topper Friday: Baseball Bride and Groom Cake Topper
As American as Mom, Baseball, and Apple Pie! Going into the week during which we celebrate the 4th of July, I am lovin’ this adorable cake topper, featuring the groom on the pitcher’s mound and the bride at bat. ‘Cause I totally think the couple that plays together stays together.
Can’t you just see this on a summertime wedding cake? For that couple that we all know where they are BOTH Read More
Cameo Wedding Cake with Fondant Pearls and Lace
Some cakes are just so gorgeous they take your breath away. For me this is one of those cakes.
I love love love the way Kara Buntin, of A Cake to Remember used a different design on each tier…it emphasizes the vintage feel of the cake. The lace on the bottom tier was made from a fondant press. And Read More
Rose Wedding Cupcakes
I have a slight obsession with cupcakes. Actually obsession might be underestimating it a bit. So when I saw these beautiful rose cupcakes from Syma at Sugar Rush I just had to feature them!
These cupcakes are a step above your ordinary wedding cupcakes. The beautifully crafted roses give a soft, romantic feel to the cupcakes. Can you imagine a tower of these gorgeous cupcakes at Read More
Hand Painted Bird’s Nest Cake
This cake is vintage and gorgeous and I am in love! Amelie’s House is responsible for this wonderful concoction. They actually designed and made it for a baby shower but I think it would make a beautiful cake for a wedding (or a bridal shower).
Around the cake they painted a mimosa border (the flower not the delicious drink) because the featured refreshment at the shower were mimosa cocktails (yum!). But this cake isn’t all about the decor. The actual cake itself was Read More
Pink Ombre Pleated Pinwheels Wedding Cake
This cake is modern and girly and oh so fabulous! The pink pinwheels are the perfect accent for the simplicity of this white cake.
And I absolutely love the pink ombre coloring that Erica O’Brien Cake Design, of Hamden, Connecticut used to accent the cake. Ombre coloring is all the rage from hair color to clothing to party decor and even cakes. And it is executed perfectly here. Not too much pink but Read More
