For the Guys: Star Wars Groom’s Cake

Star Wars Groom's Cake

Oh. My. Star. Wars.  This cake by Anna Cakes of Winter Springs, FL is all kinds of amazing!

I grew up in a house filled with Star Wars.  My little brother was in elementary school when they released Episode I The Phantom Menace, and it played non-stop in our house for years. I swear I can probably still recite it to you. There may have also been a few epic light saber battles that went down in our kitchen (much to my mother’s dismay).

So when I saw this cake I was Read More

Whimsical and Wonky Rectangular Wedding Cake

Square Wonky Cake

When the wonky wedding cake debuted in the nineties we were all taken aback with by its cuteness and whimsy. This style of  cake, which had asymmetrical layers and looked like something right out of Alice in Wonderland, defied gravity to stay upright.  It was a breath of fresh air.

Nowadays, we’ve seen lots of wonky cakes.  Some are well executed; some, not so much.  But when I saw this one by Jenniffer of Cup a Dee Cakes in Georgia, I really considered the genre redefined.

I had never seen a square wonky cake!  And this one’s wonkiness Read More

Stephanotis Nosegay Cake Topper

Nosegay Cake Topper

My senior year in high school, the sweetest boy took me to prom.  I wasn’t big on corsages, especially those wrist-y kind that were so popular at the time.  So I asked for a nosegay, a little bouquet that I could carry.  He obliged with the most adorable little cluster of pink tea roses, surrounded by baby’s breath and variegated leaves and pink ribbon.  Sigh.  And wow.  I can super still remember that :-)

So nosegays have always had a little place in my heart.  My girls carried nosegays instead of full bouquets for my wedding, in fact (Nikko blue hydrangeas in that instance.)  There’s just something so classic about their Read More

Making Your Own Mini-Cakes

minicaketins

I’ve been talking excessively about mini-cakes lately. For that I apologize..but I just LOVE them. More than Cake Pops but a little less than Cupcakes, Mini-Cakes are my new lust for 2012. Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for May 1, 2011

Buttoned Cake

What a week for weddings it has been.  And to think – the season is just beginning!

The world watched Friday as Kate Middleton – now HRH The Duchess of Cambridge – married Prince William in a beautiful ceremony that was both modern and traditional all at once.  Christen and I tweeted and texted and Facebooked with our best girlfriends from all over, as we all enjoyed the elegant spectacle.

Now, we’re sure to have Read More
