Beautiful Wedding Cake…But We’re a Little Concerned About the Marriage

Back to Back bride and groom

Beautiful white on white – one of my favorite decorating techniques – and pops of autumnal color.  And on top of it all stands a traditional-looking bride and groom – standing cross-armed, not speaking.

Methinks this does not bode well for the marriage.

What did they disagree about?  Did she want a ski honeymoon, and he wanted to snorkel off of Baja?  Did he want his gal pal as best man?  Did she insist on writing their vows, and he didn’t want to mess with it?  Or was it something even more important – she wanted vanilla and he wanted chocolate…

Well, we’ll probably never know.  But we hope that they worked it out with the same tongue in cheek sense of humor that led them to cast this cute cake topper in a starring role.

And let’s say it all together:  Weddings last for a day.  Marriages (are supposed to) last for a lifetime.

Striped Wedding Cake

striped cake

I have to admit. Spending a good chunk of my days looking at wedding cakes I have come to a conclusion. A lot of wedding cakes look the same. Now here is something you don’t see everyday. A striped wedding cake!
I love it..love it, love it!
There are a few things about this cake that make it unique. First, the obvious. The stripes! These stripes could be so hard to pull off. One misplaces stripe on an otherwise gorgeous cake and all we would be talking about is how one stripe is a half a centimeter closer to the other stripe than it should be. I also love the subtle color of the brown stripes. I would love to see this in a light pink..or blue..or oh my gosh turquoise! I die! The second thing is the separated tiers. It’s basically two cakes in one. The pink/peach/brownish roses that separate the tiers give it such great balance. If you hadn’t heard..I love this cake!

A green cake..for St. Patrick..

st pats

Top ‘o the mornin! Erin go braugh! Eat yer Lucky Charms!

As you can tell by my greetings it must be St. Patrick’s Day. So pull up your potatoes and let’s have a green beer & talk cake shall we?

I must admit..I searched high and low for a St. Patrick’s Day themed wedding cake. Wouldn’t you know that St. Patrick’s Day themed weddings are not entirely popular? By the way, if you’ve had one please e-mail me pictures for SPD ’12. Thanks.
The best I could come up with was this lovely green(ish yellow) cake. While it may not scream “St. Patrick’s Day” it does fit in with the theme I am going with here and will allow me not to get e-pinched..right? A green wedding cake is hard to pull off..but I love the way this cake looks! The icing is a cool yellow-green and topped with a gorgeous flower. To me the flower almost looks edible. I can’t be sure but a girl can dream. The cool thing about this cake is that it is a smaller sized version of a much larger layered cake. Check out the rest of the Flickr Photo Stream to see the picture cake!

Sunflower Cake

Phil and Kristen's Wedding in Waynesville, NC

Here are two words I am loving lately: Sun & flower..combine them together..well that’s even better! It also reminds me of that Liz Claibourne perfume I used to adore in the 7th grade. I used to go to the counter at Belk and spray that bad boy all over. When I finally saved up $35 I went and bought myself a bottle. I saw it on sale at Walgreen’s the other day for $7.99. Oh my.

But I digress. With Spring creeping up I am in the mood for cakes with happy flowers that make me think of sunshine and long nights. Even though the flowers on this cake have more of a fall themed hue I think it could easily be used for spring or summer by throwing in some bright colors. Enough about the flowers..look at the cake! The pipping on this cake is a gorgeous swirl design. I also love the pipping in between the three layers as well. So pretty and so well made by Callie’s Confections in Asheville, NC. (If you’ve never been to Asheville…book your trip now! It is one of my favorite places in the world!)

Strawberry Fields Forever

Luscious Strawberry Cake

Did we mention that we may just live in a state where strawberries are in season while the rest of the country is still shivering?  (Please, don’t hate us.)

But, that would explain to you why I see this cake, and think, “Oh, how perfect for March!” While you see it, and say, “Well, now she’s just torturing us.”

So, let’s call it inspiration for all you brides planning a wedding in the next few months.
