Ruffles, Ruffles, and More Ruffles!

ruffleflowers

I’m a bit ruffle obsessed. That’s for certain. Add a little bit of light pink in the shape of a ruffly flower and I am dead from sheer girly indulgence.

Okay, so I know ruffles are NOT for everyone. I learned this the hard way when in Second Grade I wore a Ruffly Pink Flower Girl Dress to school just about every other day for three months. My mother “sent it away to be dry-cleaned” for about six weeks…ahem. By the time it came back it was the dead of winter and even my love for ruffles could not conquer my cold knees. True story, I wore it for my 2nd grade class picture…I should find it and scan it on here so you’ll believe me.

This cake is all the girly goodness that my Pink Ruffle Dress once was. A three tiered stacked round cake covered in flawless white fondant and adorned with row after row of fondant ruffles. The time and the precision this bad boy must have taken are unimaginable

Skull Wedding Cake

skull cake

Yup, that’s a wedding cake.  With skulls on it.  I think I have seen everything.

I actually filed this away for Halloween but after staring at it for a full fifteen minutes I knew I couldn’t wait.  I had to share it now.

This quiet a lovely three tiered stacked round cake covered in flawless white fondant.   Adorning the sides…well we’ve already discussed that those are small skulls.  The vertical stripes going up the sides of the cake are actually replica bones.  The bride was actually inspired by Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.  I love how this bride took a theme she really wanted (skulls and bones) and presented them in such a classy way.  This could have Read More

Yellow and Green Wedding Cake

lime greeb

I love when I find a cake that is like nothing else I’ve never seen before.  After awhile all cakes start to resemble one another and I like to throw in an eclectic cake just to keep it interesting.

The originality in this cake comes with the coloring.  I cannot remember Read More

Champagne Wedding Cake

champagne wedding cake

Some cakes are stunning in their detail.  Some are breathtaking in the display of the baker’s skill.  And some are flat out…adorable.

This, Ladies and Gentleman, is an adorable cake.

The label adorable is by no means slander.  It’s perfect in every detail.  Not a wrinkle in the fondant.  Not a twinkle out of place in the fountain-y, sparkly, headdress-y cake topper.  It really is perfect.

But I use adorable Read More

White Chocolate Monogrammed Wedding Cake

birdiemonogramm

Here we go with those birds again.
Good thing I love them…right?
There is so much to talk about with this cake I am having trouble deciding where to begin…so let’s just start with the facts. This is a four tier cake. The tiers have an alternating diamond pattern while the other layers are smooth and clean fondant. The top tier has an intricate swirl design and is topped with a gorgeous Read More

Classic White Round Fondant Cake

bea

On my first day of graduate school I didn’t know a soul.  By the end of the day I had two brand new friends and a date for sushi later in the week.  One of those friends was named Bea and she was the first person I’d ever met that owned more than one piece of Chanel.  Not just the kind of Chanel that I had (that my cousin bought me off the streets of NYC from a guy named Paco) but the real kind. Her collection not only included a purse but sunglasses and a pair of shoes.  The good thing about Bea was that she wouldn’t rub it in your face.  If you asked her if it was real she would tell you that it was but other than that she was pretty low-key about the whole Chanel thing.  Another cool thing about Read More

Fondant or Fon-don’t

fondant1

To fondant or to fon-don’t. That is indeed the question.

I was originally going to call this post Fon-do or Fon-don’t: The Truth about Fondant, but then all I could think about was dipping various things in chocolate…or cheese. Or both. So I switched it. I think it’s much more socially acceptable Read More

There is something simply stunning and sophisticated about the peacock–don’t you agree?

Everything is Pink and Pretty

Pink topsy turvy

Just when I thought my cake resources where running a bit dry this beauty pops up!

First and foremost…is this not a beautiful picture?

Anyway, on with the cake!  I adore pink.  It’s my absolute favorite color on the planet.  However, I personally think that pink wedding cakes can be…well…let’s be honest…tacky.  I don’t know why, but baby pink on a cake just doesn’t do it for me.  This cake strikes my fancy though.  The first tier has a sophisticated pink and cream diamond pattern.  The second has pink fondant stripes.  But what really sets it apart are the adorable tiny dark pink fondant flowers that are scattered across the cake.  To. Die. For.  Instead of a cake topper, this couple decided to play with the dark pink color and add some dark pink gerbera daises.

Tall, Pink & Yummy.

Pretty Pretty

This cake reminds me of something that just happened to me recently. A group of my friends from college (who are mostly all single and without kids) all decided to meet up for dinner one night a few months ago. I hadn’t seen most of the girls in ages. I bought a new outfit, washed my hair (a pretty miraculous feat for a working mom) and felt pretty good about myself. Until I showed up and my post-baby body couldn’t even compare to the highlights, Coach Bags and skinny jeans that these girls donned. And they all seemed to be about 6 feet tall. That’s what this cake is. A 6 foot tall blond with highlights and all the right accessories that just makes other cakes feel frumpy in comparison.
I mean really this cake might just be six feet tall. I don’t have my measuring tape handy.

Anyway, this is a gorgeous FIVE tier round wedding cake..there must have been 500 people at this wedding! Decorated in a lovely beige fondant with a gorgeous swirl design covering the cake are a mixture of pretty pink flowers.

If cake’s had a popularity contest this cake would win..and steal your boyfriend.
