Naked Cake Part Two: Bananas Foster Wedding Cake

Naked bananas foster wedding cake

A couple of weeks ago, I featured this naked wedding cake, and got (mostly) rave reviews!  Y’all loved its rustic warmth and general yummy lookingness.  Well, I couldn’t help but share this one with you, too.  Because it’s kind of a mess, but I lurve it.

This bananas foster naked cake is obviously inspired by the flambe dessert that has been made famous in New Orleans.  I love the perfectly controlled chaos here – layer upon layer of cake and bananas and yummy filling, heaped, but neatly heaped.  All displayed on a lovely, vintage  milkglass pedestal stand.

How darling would this cake be for a Read More

Green Leaves Wedding Cake

Green leaves wedding cake

Disclaimer:  I am not Irish.  However, it’s that time of year when green is everywhere, and it should be here, too.

So, if you aren’t Irish either, then we’ll take this opportunity to spring forward, and dream of the green things that are about to burst forth :-)

This cake, which was featured on TheKnot.com, is lovely, isn’t it?  A simple, flawless white background, with sugarpaste leaves and Read More

Crystal and Pink White Snowflake Cake

Crystal and Pink Snowflake Cake

I know that my friends and family in other parts of the country are rrrreeeealllyy super hoping that winter spread its last hurrah recently, when the Facebook posts about falling snow were coming thick and furious.  So to bid adieu (hopefully) to the white stuff, here’s a reminder of all that is enchanting and sparkly about it.

There’s just something about a snowflake cake!

When I saw this gorgeousness from Rachael Teufel and Company at Intricate Icings, I knew I had to feature it.  The cake was the perfect centerpiece for a breathtaking New Year’s Eve wedding in Colorado.  And those aren’t Read More

Hand Painted Tattoo Wedding Cake

Hand painted tattoo wedding cake

I ran across another cake by Becky at Consumed by Cake, which led me to a little digging (I simply had to know more about her lovely work), which led me to brashly introduce myself to her when I found this incredible hand painted tattoo wedding cake.

The introduction went something like this:

“Hi, my name is Brooke, and I am in love with your cake.”

Becky graciously responded to my fawning and gushing, and sent me some darling details about this one.  This was, it seems, her first “international” wedding cake!  The couple, from Belgium, saw Read More

Wavy Ruffles Wedding Cake

wavy ruffles wedding cake

I featured another cake by Bella Manse a few weeks ago because I thought we all needed a reminder of pretty spring colors.  However, this is the one that first endeared me to cake artist and owner Renee Schlotzhauer.

I love what she has done with these wispy, wavy ruffles.  I’ve never seen another cake exactly like it.  The sugared strawberries add a deft touch of color to the pallette that is just delicious.  The tall, slender profile is lovely, too.  This would be a cake that truly, I would hate to cut…I wouldn’t be happy to wreck the surpassing gorgeousness.

Like an ethereal wedding gown, or a delicate calla lily, this beautiful Read More

Hand Painted Roses Wedding Cake

hand painted roses wedding cake

We’ve seen hand painted wedding cakes.  And we’ve seen roses wedding cakes.  But we’ve never seen someone put the two together.  The beautifully talented and oh-so original Victoria Made has once again set our hearts aflutter.

We love the simplicity Read More

Monogrammed White Fondant Cake with Purple Ribbon

Purple Ribbon Wedding Cake with Monogram

My love of monograms is well documented, as is my love of white on white cakes.  And actually, come to think of it, so is my love of Renay Zamora and Sweet Face Cakes.

But I never tire of any of these elements, or of Renay and her beautiful work.

Renay tells me a lovely story about this cake.  She and the mother of the bride had a rather random connection.  They had served on their church’s worship team, but hadn’t seen each other in years; however, they recognized one another immediately when they met at Read More

Beehive Wedding Cake

Beehive Cake

Did you know that beehives often symbolize industry, harmony, and order?  Well, if that be so, then we think using a beehive as a symbol for marriage is to get off on exactly the right foot.  After all, marriage takes work, and harmony makes it all the better, yes?

Paige and Justin, our bride and groom whose Read More

Silver Coin Wedding Cake

Silver Coin Cake

We all know that gold continues to be hot! hot! hot! this year.  But no matter how many gold trends come and go, I shall always be a silver girl (or white gold.  Or platinum.  You get my drift.)

This cake caught my eye right away.  Featured at a wedding in Santa Ana, California, what a rich look it has!  I love the geometrical pattern of the coins all over the cake; it’s executed flawlessly…and do NOT think that that happened without a whole lotta work.  The edible coins rest on a palette of buttercream, and the whole thing is quite Read More

Yellow Abstract Flower Wedding Cake

Yellow Wedding Cake

We hear that a lot of couples are going for smaller celebrations these days.  Maybe their circle of friends is smaller.  Maybe they’re cutting down on the expense of a big wedding.  Or maybe they’re just thinking that a wedding is kind of an intimate thing, and really doesn’t need to be shared with everyone you ever met in your life.

Whatever the reason, we’re seeing really lovely examples of smaller cakes, like Read More
