Simple Wedding Cakes
Sometimes simple says it best. You might choose a simple wedding cake because you prefer a minimalist approach, or because you like you like to stick with the basics when it comes to cake, or even because you are interested in showcasing a particularly fancy flower or cake topper, simple wedding cakes never go out of style. The basic, stacked, white wedding cake, frosted in a smooth coating of buttercream or covered in a snowy blanket of fondant, may hide beautiful flavors and colors beneath its exterior – the best of both worlds. Or maybe you and your groom prefer the traditional “white cake, white frosting” approach – or “chocolate cake, chocolate frosting” – after all, simple doesn’t necessarily mean traditional. On the other hand, a simple cake may be the perfect way to showcase a special caketopper or flower that has personal meaning for you. A topper that shows your style or a hobby that you and future hubby share becomes all the more visible when it doesn’t need to compete with a fancy cake. Maybe you have a family heirloom that can nestle atop your cake. Alternatively, some dazzling orchids or floppy peonies may be all the statement that you need to make. A simple cake need not be boring, after all.
White Wedding Cake with Fresh Flowers
Sometimes all you need to make a statement is a simple yet elegant wedding cake.
This is that cake.
The three tier cake features elegant buttercream icing that almost resembles pleats in a wedding dress. And the only embellishment the cake needs is a brightly colored fresh flower.
This version of the cake features a lovely red rose, but if roses aren’t your favorite it would look stunning with other big and bright flowers. Read More
Strawberry Meringue Wedding Cupcake
One of my favorite summer desserts is strawberry shortcake.
But I really just like the strawberries and whipped cream components of the dessert.
So when I saw this strawberry meringue cupcake I just knew I had to share it with you!
Your guests might think they’re getting a strawberry cupcake, but they’re in for a surprise. Read More
Wedding Cake with Peach Roses
Sometimes all you need for a gorgeous wedding cake is a simple white cake topped with pretty flowers.
Like this cake.
It’s so simple and so pretty and I would love to see this at a summer wedding.
I love wedding cakes with fresh flowers – it’s such an easy and elegant way to add something special to your cake.
And you can personalize it by incorporating the flowers from your bouquet or what your bridesmaids are carrying. Read More
Wedding Cake with Rainbow Dots
Do you remember those candy dots you used to eat as a kid?
You know, the ones that were stuck to strips of paper so you inevitably ended up eating paper AND candy?
How cool would those be on a wedding cake (minus the paper, of course)? Pretty cool if you ask me.
So imagine how happy I was to find this very modern take on the candy dot wedding cake.
It’s bright and colorful and cheerful. And it will take your guests back to their childhood (assuming they’re old enough to remember candy dots). Read More
Modern Wedding Cake
I’m a big fan of traditional wedding cakes – white frosting, flowers, cake topper.
But I’m also becoming a fan of the more non-traditional cakes we’ve been featuring here.
And every now and then I find an ultra modern wedding cake that knocks my socks off.
This is one of those cakes.
From the straight lines of the square tiers to the 3D illusion of the sugar paste rings, this cake has it going on! Read More
Unfrosted Wedding Cake with Fresh Roses
I have to admit, I find the unfrosted – or “naked” – wedding cakes a bit jarring.
I think that’s because I want my cake to be overloaded with frosting. I’m the “corner of the cake” kind of girl because that’s where the highest concentration of frosting hides.
So when I see a wedding cake sans frosting, it makes me wonder “why?”
However, I am always one to give cakes the benefit of the doubt (unless there’s carrot cake involved) so let’s go forth and explore the wonder that is the naked wedding cake. Read More
Wedding Cake with Lemon and Thyme
One of my all-time favorite summer flavors is lemon.
Whether it’s lemonade or lemon meringue pie, you can’t go wrong with lemon in summer.
Plus, their bright yellow color make everything more cheerful.
Perhaps this is why I’m loving this bright yellow lemon and thyme wedding cake.
The cake is a lemon-thyme base and in between the tiers are alternate layers of lemon curd and vanilla buttercream – two flavors that pair deliciously. Read More
Wedding Cake with Zinnias
Sometimes a simple wedding cake is exactly what a bride wants for her summer wedding.
Maybe you don’t want all the frills and tiers. Maybe you just want something simple and pretty.
And maybe you even want a DIY cake.
If that description sounds like you, then we have found your cake!
This homemade (as in, made at your home!) white wedding cake is a lovely three-tier cake with zinnias and ivy. Read More
White Wedding Cake with Love Topper
We don’t often think about a simple one-tier wedding cake, but it’s a trend that some brides are going with.
After all, if you’re having a small reception there’s no need for a huge multi-tier cake.
And if you’re going to keep things simple, it’s always a good idea to make it simply beautiful. Read More
Wedding Cake with Succulents and Flowers
As much as I love wedding cakes with sugar flowers, I also love wedding cakes that feature real flowers and plants.
Just like this cake with succulents.
I love the understated elegance of the cake and the use of succulents just adds to that elegance.
I have to admit as much as I love bright flowers on cake I also love when brides forgo that bright pop of color for something a bit more understated. Read More
