Circle Wedding Cakes
Think of a traditional wedding cake, and chances are, you will immediately envision a tiered white cake with round layers. Round, or circle, wedding cakes are the standard for tradition. Whether the layers are separated by columns, or rest one upon another, it is safe to say that the majority of tiered cakes favor layers that are round in shape. In recent years, bakers have added interest to the otherwise traditional (and sometimes unexciting) profile of a round cake by stacking layers that are very similar in size, or by varying the height of various layers. But regardless of the size and height, circle wedding cakes are here to stay. And what could be more appropriate to signify and celebrate unending love, than the circle?
Homespun Wedding Cake
Don’t you just want to grab a cup of coffee or a glass of ice cold milk and dig right into this baby?
Lots of cakes that we feature are all about the looks. And so often, I almost can’t imagine cutting into them because of the hours and hours of work they took to make. But this cake invites you to get comfortable and cut a big ole’ slab!
If I had to guess (and I do, since I know not who made the cake or what the flavors are) I would say that we have here layers of Read More
Rustic Sweets Table and Pie Pops!
Don’t you love when a plan really comes together?
I thought this sweets table was adorable. Now, I could be missing my mark here, but it doesn’t appear to be highly stylized…in other words, it might be DIY, y’all. I’m not sure. But it’s really done well, don’t you think? From the square of burlap that adorns the table to the lace cafe curtains in the back, it’s just all lovely. The macarons are a little Read More
Pearl Encrusted Wedding Cake with Monogram
Oh. My. Pearls.
On the heels of Julia Child’s 100th birthday last week, I’ve been in love all over again with pearls. They are ALWAYS my first choice, the thing I gravitate towards in the case. And so, it should come as NO surprise that I loved the cake the instant I saw it.
It’s just so perfect. And there’s something about that many sugar pearls on a cake that seems so, well, elegantly decadent. That Jenniffer from Cup a Dee Cakes paired the pearls with a Read More
Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for August 19, 2012
Greetings and salutations!
I have a question for you: why, oh why, does it take going back to school for kiddoes to make life suddenly make sense and seem orderly again? I think that’s hitting the nail on the head. It’s a sense of order. A sense of order that my household has been sorely lacking since the Great Homeschool Experiment of ’11.
Homeschooling parents? God bless ’em. We found out that a) this career girl may not be cut out for that kinda thing; b) my daughter may not be, either. So maybe we’ll revisit in a few years. Or maybe not. You don’t know until you try it, and for now, we’re gonna throw the towel in.
What does this have to do with weddings? Oh, Read More
For the Guys: Groom’s Bokeh Cake
Sometimes, you just need a LOT of chocolate. This would be one of those times.
Oh, but how I wish I were going to a wedding where this cake was being served today! How about you?
Something deliciously drippy and decadent, like this Read More
Pink Peony Cupcake Tower
Love. This.
Normally, I would split these pics up, but I A) wanted you to see the general, and then the detail, and B) didn’t want to mess with the photographer’s watermark. K. Technical discolosure complete. Let’s gush.
Isn’t this gorgeous? I mean, you Read More
Pink Bow Wedding Cake
Sometimes I see simple, beautiful, easy-to-do ideas, and I think, why didn’t I think of that?
I know. You do too.
This cake is kinda like that, you know? When I saw this, I thought it was adorable, but even more than that, I thought that it was so do-able. Like DIY-able. Basically, you make teeny tiny satin ribbon bows, affix them to floral wire, and stick them into the cake. Done.
But maybe your thing isn’t bows. But you could do this with Read More
White on White Seashell Wedding Cake
I hope you aren’t tired of beach-inspired wedding cakes, because I probably never will be.
I know that I’ve featured my fair share of wedding cakes that incorporate ocean elements over the last couple of years, like this Teal Seashell Wedding Cake from a wedding in Key West. Well, today’s cake has kind of an interesting story, too.
This cake was made for a recent wedding at Read More
Sky Blue Wedding Cake with Clouds and Roses
I love when I see a cake that I never, ever would have thought of, but when I see it, it’s like….YESSSSS.
Isn’t this just darling? Barely different sized layers on the bottom – is there a difference in size? – and the slight diameter difference continues up the cake. The on-purposeness of it is just enchanting. It’s like the baker said, Read More
Peaches Wedding Cake
We are a peach lovin’ family. No. You don’t EVEN understand.
Hubs is from the Great State of Georgia, and while we lived there, we waited with HUGE anticipation every year for the peach crop to come in. And since it’s kinda short, we would buy tons and just gorge ourselves on them. We’d freeze them. And they went into everything we could possibly think to use them in.
So, when I saw this beautiful cake on Southern Living Magazine’s website, I just knew I had to feature. It’s peaches, y’all! The peach-colored cake is covered with white dotted swiss and topped with a bow. But the real magic is the garnish of peaches and floppy peach colored roses and peonies at the base. The cake is also adorably displayed on an overturned bushel basket. Darling!
