Circle Wedding Cakes

Think of a traditional wedding cake, and chances are, you will immediately envision a tiered white cake with round layers. Round, or circle, wedding cakes are the standard for tradition. Whether the layers are separated by columns, or rest one upon another, it is safe to say that the majority of tiered cakes favor layers that are round in shape. In recent years, bakers have added interest to the otherwise traditional (and sometimes unexciting) profile of a round cake by stacking layers that are very similar in size, or by varying the height of various layers. But regardless of the size and height, circle wedding cakes are here to stay. And what could be more appropriate to signify and celebrate unending love, than the circle?

Yellow and Grey Chevron Wedding Cake

Yellow and Grey Chevron Wedding Cake

Yellow and grey are so hot right now.  We are seeing them simply everywhere!  And wedding cakes are no exception.

Isn’t this trio of cakes by Jasmine Clouser of The Couture Cakery darling?  Where to start?  The color combo is enchanting; I especially love how Jasmine used both bold and pale shades of yellow.  The quilting on the large cake is divine.  And the pearls!  The varied heights of the cake rounds is awesome too, and keeps the whole cake from slipping into something too traditional.  Add to it the juxtaposition of the flouncy peonies with the stylized simpler flowers, and it’s just all perfection!

Jasmine created this cake trio for a bridal show earlier this year, in conjunction with Weddings by JDK and Persnickety Invitation Studio.  The sweets table that came out of this dream team collaboration is simply breathtaking!  Gorg!

If you love these cakes, be sure to look at others that we’ve featured by Couture Cakery, like this Orange Spring Tiger Lily Wedding Cake, and this Indian Inspired Cake.

Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for August 5, 2012

ruffled_wedding_cake1

Greetings, one and all!  How does this lovely summer day find you?  Well, I hope!

It’s been SUCH an awesome week here, y’all.  If you’re a regular reader, then you know that I’m having a nice visit with my best friend, who flew in from half way across the country (and across what we normally call That Stupid Gulf) to spend a week.  A week of Nowhere to Go, Nowhere to Be.  Of sandcastles and ocean breezes.  Of the full moon over the lighthouse.  Of eating too much and laughing more.

Well, next week, it will be back to reality (after a quick trip to Key West to bid summertime, for all intents and purposes, adieu) but for now, we still have some playing to do!  So let’s share a few minutes together, looking over the week’s wedding Sweet and Pretty, and then it’s back to the grind of the beach! 😉

But what were we up to this week, first of all?  Glad you asked!

On Monday, we featured this darling Minnie Mouse-Inspired Birthday cake.  We think it would make an adorable wedding cake as well.

Tuesday brought these fantastic cube-shaped Deconstructed Wedding Cakes.  I love this look!

I featured this ethereal Yellow and Blush Rosepetal Cake on Wednesday.

Isn’t this Ice Blue Rustic Wedding Cake that we featured on Thursday fantastic?

On Cake Topper Friday, we fell in love with this Picture Perfect Couple.

For the Guys featured a mountain of chocolate, quite literally, with this Megeve Chocolate Groom’s Cake.

Are you a curvy girl?  Here’s a cute story featuring Five Marilyn Monroe-inspired wedding dresses.

Ha! Thank you, Miss Manners.  A gentle reminder that guests should not be asked to pay for your wedding.

Do we believe Jessica Biel when she says she’s done “almost nothing” for her wedding to Justin Timberlake? Hmmmm?

I adore this artsy backyard wedding, featured on Wedding Chicks, don’t you?  And the ruffled cake is so lovely, I feature it above.

Isn’t this Maggie Austin Cake, featured on Austin Wedding Blog, gorgeous?  I LOVE the green ruffles and blue flowers!

Here’s a really great post for brides considering baking their own wedding cakes.  From Vancity Bride.

Have a Delicious Week!  And wear your sunscreen!

Blue Rustic-Iced Ombre Wedding Cake

Blue Rustic Iced Ombre Cake

How do we feel about a rustic approach to icing, y’all?

Personally, I like it.  Don’t get me wrong.  A perfectly coiffed cake is sigh-inducing for sure.  Still, there’s something so charming about swishy swirls in icing – or should I say frosting? – don’t you think?  Like, I could totally Read More

Yellow and Blush Wedding Cake with Rose Petals

Yellow Wedding Cake

I think rose petals are so beautiful. Maybe it’s old fashioned of me, but they’re so ruffly, and dainty.  They smell good and even feel good, with their soft, matte-velvet texture.

I think this cake is just so pretty, don’t you?  It mimics that beautiful yellow-meets-blush look that you can only find on roses.  At first, I thought the embellishment around that bottom tier was Read More

Pink Minnie Mouse Cake

Pink Minnie Mouse Cake

When I saw this cute-as-a-button Minnie Mouse-inspired birthday cake, I squealed like a little girl.  This was cuter than cute.  There’s not a level of cute that’s been invented yet that does it justice.

Sure, I know.  It’s a first birthday cake.  But I live in the land of the Mouse, y’all.  So you can just imagine the copious number of Disney fangirls I know.  I’m totally serious.  They would LOVE this as a wedding cake, or for their bridesmaid luncheon.

There’s somethings always so…just so about Read More

Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for July 29, 2012

guiness chocolate wedding cake with bailey's

Happy Sunday!  I am soooo about to check out for a few days while my ab bestie is here visiting.  I can’t wait!  It’s been WAY too long.  But before I go get my beach on for the week (with a little Dark & Stormy action sprinkled in for giggles), I had to show you what I’ve been seeing this week.  Gosh, but it’s been a pretty summer wedding-wise, with lots of homespun and lace.

But before we take our weekly peek at the interwebs, let’s see what we’ve been up to right here at A Wedding Cake Blog.

On Monday, we featured the most DARLING Read More

For the Guys: Chocolate Honey Groom’s Cake

Sprinkle Bakes Honey Chocolate Cake

This cake has two of my favorite flavors – chocolate and honey, Honey – so you were going to see it at some point.  Add to it the fabulous design and the gorgeous pop of color from the grosgrain ribbon, and you have cake perfection.

I have a little girl crush on Heather from Sprinkle Bakes anyway, because she makes the most delightful and scrumptious-sounding treats.  But isn’t this just the bees knees, quite literally, y’all?  Rich chocolate cake, glazed with a Read More

Orange and Magenta Scroll Wedding Cake

orange and magenta wedding cake

This wedding cake is like coffee!  Isn’t it?

What do I mean?  It’s an instant wake up!

I love it.  Really really REALLY.  Not only is it replete with the world’s happiest flower, the DAISY, but the perfect scrollwork in two of the poppiest of colors, bright orange and magenta, make me want to dance.  Or twirl.  Or hula hoop.  Or maybe all of the above.  It’s kinda like a really fun twist on the hot trend of ombre, don’t you think?

I have no idea who made this cake, sadly, so if you do, please, speak up and let us know.  In the meantime, enjoy it.  Enjoy it like you enjoy a good summer party in your prettiest dress.

Love Birds and Succulents Wedding Cake

succulent_wedding_cake

Oh, but the summer vibe just keeps on getting summerier.  That’s a word, right?

So, today’s cake isn’t so much about the cake itself – don’t be hatin’ on me ’cause it came from Publix Supermarket – but it is about the beautiful way that the bride and groom decided to dress it up with so many darling details.

The cake is the perfect blank slate: white fondant with big, exaggerated, pearl trim.  But what really caught my eye were the succulents trimming the cake (LOVE THEM), as well as the adorable – I mean, CRAZY adorable! – lovebirds nesting on top.  The final touch is the Read More

Happy Ending Wedding Cake

Happily Ever After Cake-001

Those with any sense know that “And They Lived Happily Ever After” signifies not the end of the story, but the beginning.

Today, we feature another beautiful cake by Jenniffer at Cup A Dee Cakes in Tunnel Hill, Georgia.  Clearly, Jenniffer knows this secret, and so does the couple for whom she made this beautiful cake.

So there are lots of fun things to love here.  First, be sure to read Jen’s original blog post about how she got that pretty silver lettering onto that cake without going all wonky and downhill like most of us would.  Next, don’t you love that vivid pop of Read More
