Circle Wedding Cakes

Think of a traditional wedding cake, and chances are, you will immediately envision a tiered white cake with round layers. Round, or circle, wedding cakes are the standard for tradition. Whether the layers are separated by columns, or rest one upon another, it is safe to say that the majority of tiered cakes favor layers that are round in shape. In recent years, bakers have added interest to the otherwise traditional (and sometimes unexciting) profile of a round cake by stacking layers that are very similar in size, or by varying the height of various layers. But regardless of the size and height, circle wedding cakes are here to stay. And what could be more appropriate to signify and celebrate unending love, than the circle?

Cake Topper Friday: Egg and Bird Nest Cake Toppers

bird egg and nest cake topper

So, before I launch into my normal and characteristic rhapsody, a disclaimer: this picture has been repinned on Pinterest.  A lot.  And it would seem that the original link was to some spammy site, rather than the original source.  But I simply had to show it to you.  So if you know who is responsible for this darling genius of a cake, please speak up.  Ok.  Onto cake gushing.

So, the eggs and nest are cute enough here, right?  New love, new life hatching and all that.  But when you pull back and see the darling Read More

Naked Wedding Cake, Part Trois

Naked Cake 3

Somehow, saying the number in French makes the word “naked” ever so much more classy, yes?

I am feelin’ summer today, y’all!  And if summer isn’t about no fuss, no muss, and HOT, and get-out-of-the-kitchen (or pastry shop) and enjoy your guests, then I don’t know what is.  And this simple cake of sponge, layered with buttercream and topped with berries and Read More

Orange Flower and Monogram Wedding Cake

orange monogram wedding cake

I needed some serious pretty this morning, y’all.  It might be time for a vacation :-)

Isn’t this cake incredible?  I know…once again, I’m season-bending.  BUT – I still justify this by saying that if you are looking at A Wedding Cake Blog right now, and are planning a wedding, it’s probably not for next week, right?  So it only makes sense to show you cakes now and then a couple of seasons hence.

I love the vibrant color here, and the Read More

Pink and Brown Square Wedding Cake with Scrolls

Pink and Brown Square Cake

It’s the simple touches that really set apart good from fantastic, right?  Anna Hightower from Central Florida’s Anna Cakes totally gets that.

I saw this cake for the first time on Twitter, when Anna sent me a pic.  I immediately fell in love!  I mean, pink and brown are such a fantastic color combo anyway, but then I took in the different design elements – the perfectly piped scrolls, the top layer that was round for whimsy, the brooch and the picture-perfect initial cake topper – they all came together to make a beautiful cake.  But truly, what sets it apart for me is the Read More

Southern All the Way: Magnolia and Bling Wedding Cake

Magnolia and bling

If I can’t have pearls, then diamonds will do.  Agreed, girls?

This cake practically drawls at us from the computer screen, doesn’t it?  Oh, how I adore Savannah!  Random?  Not really.  For this cake evokes long, slow, sultry walks on the squares, and delicious food, and beautiful architecture, and gracious people.  That’s no coincidence, because this cake was created by Savannah’s own Custom Cakes.

Sugar magnolias rest on a simple, classic white cake.  The base of each layer is trimmed with ivory ribbon and capped with a double strand of rhinestones, which Read More

Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for April 29, 2011

Snowball Cake pops

Greetings, Cake Lovers and Seekers of Pretty and *sigh* Moments!

What have you been up to this week?  I confess, I’ve had one foot in Fantasyworld (or rather, in the Happiest Place on Earth) and the other in the quagmire that is the last month of the school year.  Will it ever end?  I suppose that’s counter Read More

“He’s Her Lobster” Groom’s Cake

Lobster groom's cake

You know the episode.  Of course you do!  Ross.  Rachel.  Phoebe and the lobsters.

Well, Jenniffer from Cup a Dee Cakes in Georgia (see!  I told you to stay tuned for another fabulous Cup a Dee cake!) likes to think that episode is the idea behind this one.  And I (and a couple million of my closest friends who were also glued to the TV on Thursday nights in the nineties) would like to agree.

While Jenniffer says the cake was a Read More

Pink Painted Wedding Cake

Painted Wedding Cake

Happy Happy Spring!  That is what this cake says to me!

I found this incredibly beautiful, demure little cake on Pinterest, but it was posted there from Amelie’s House (byline: “a makey-bakey-cakey place.”)  I think I have found yet another UK love interest.

I LOVE pink.  I LOVE pink wedding-y things.  And painted cakes?  Are the bees’ knees in my book.  Really?  Don’t you just want to leave work behind today, put on a pretty Read More

Rainbow Wedding Cake

Rainbow cake

Happy Monday!

Are you dragging, too?  Friends of mine had SNOW predicted for today!

Well, it’s sunny and beautiful here this morning, but it’s still Monday, so as a result, I could use a little jumpstart.  And this cake is soooo that!

Isn’t it incredible?  We’ve featured similar cakes, but they’ve achieved their rainbowness with candies.  This one appears to be piped dots of buttercream, meticulously and beautifully blended.  Every color of the rainbow with a healthy dose of pink for good measure!  It’s almost a different take on the Read More
