Circle Wedding Cakes
Think of a traditional wedding cake, and chances are, you will immediately envision a tiered white cake with round layers. Round, or circle, wedding cakes are the standard for tradition. Whether the layers are separated by columns, or rest one upon another, it is safe to say that the majority of tiered cakes favor layers that are round in shape. In recent years, bakers have added interest to the otherwise traditional (and sometimes unexciting) profile of a round cake by stacking layers that are very similar in size, or by varying the height of various layers. But regardless of the size and height, circle wedding cakes are here to stay. And what could be more appropriate to signify and celebrate unending love, than the circle?
Copper and Chocolate Wedding Cake
Omistars in heaven above.
Really – why do we think that chocolate should be relegated to the groom’s cake? Let’s be honest. The brides do all the work. The brides starve and sweat their brains out in exercise classes to fit into that dress, and it’s the brides who avoid all those “illegal” foods leading up to the wedding so that they are their blushing, rosy perfect selves.
So seriously…WHO deserves chocolate at that wedding reception MORE THAN THE BRIDE?
And if our fair bride will be indulging in this Read More
Rustic Un-Iced Wedding Cake
I wanted to entitle this one “Naked Cake.” But I didn’t know how Google might handle that.
I look at a LOT of wedding cakes, Dear Readers. So I see a lot of trends. Some trends are, well, trends. Some “trends” are things that start out adorable, but after you’ve seen them twenty times, well…not so much.
The use slices of tree trunk to signal “I am rustic” is starting to kinda fall into that category for me. However, I had to show you this one, because Read More

Let Them Eat Cake: Sunday Round-Up for February 26, 2012
Greetings, friends and fans of the lovely!
Something truly tragic happened this week. Yes. The silk string on my pearls frayed and now I am pearl-less until I get them fixed.
No, I’m serious.
So, in determining what to do about this predicament, I mean, what DOES a girl do? Have a strand for everyday of the week so that they don’t wear out? Where costume pearls or freshwater jobbies for everyday-around-the-house wear? Because I am totally serious when I say I wear them Read More

Beehive Wedding Cake
Did you know that beehives often symbolize industry, harmony, and order? Well, if that be so, then we think using a beehive as a symbol for marriage is to get off on exactly the right foot. After all, marriage takes work, and harmony makes it all the better, yes?
Paige and Justin, our bride and groom whose Read More
Hand-Painted Love Birds Cake
It’s one thing to see a cake which features details that prove that the cake artist is well-versed in the culinary arts. But it’s quite another when the baker also proves that she is an artist in the true sense of the word. Today’s featured cake shows just such a gift. We actually linked to this beautiful hand-painted cake by Dream Day Cakes of Gainesville, Florida, in our Let Them Eat Cake Round-Up last May, but it’s so special, we thought it deserved its own post.
Notice the details: both the tree on the bottom tier, as well as the branch that the bird cake toppers are “perched” on, were handpiped meticulously by baker and cake artist Yeni Monroy. Fred Read More
Silver Coin Wedding Cake
We all know that gold continues to be hot! hot! hot! this year. But no matter how many gold trends come and go, I shall always be a silver girl (or white gold. Or platinum. You get my drift.)
This cake caught my eye right away. Featured at a wedding in Santa Ana, California, what a rich look it has! I love the geometrical pattern of the coins all over the cake; it’s executed flawlessly…and do NOT think that that happened without a whole lotta work. The edible coins rest on a palette of buttercream, and the whole thing is quite Read More
