Circle Wedding Cakes

Think of a traditional wedding cake, and chances are, you will immediately envision a tiered white cake with round layers. Round, or circle, wedding cakes are the standard for tradition. Whether the layers are separated by columns, or rest one upon another, it is safe to say that the majority of tiered cakes favor layers that are round in shape. In recent years, bakers have added interest to the otherwise traditional (and sometimes unexciting) profile of a round cake by stacking layers that are very similar in size, or by varying the height of various layers. But regardless of the size and height, circle wedding cakes are here to stay. And what could be more appropriate to signify and celebrate unending love, than the circle?

Chocolate Raspberry Layer Cake

IMG_0002-2

Is it fair to say that I have chocolate and raspberries on the brain? You can thank my husband and our loyal Facebook readers for this one!

You may have caught on to the fact that this half of the Cake Diva Duo is a reformed baker.  Gone are the days that I stress myself out, worrying about brides and contracts and gravity Read More

Summertime Cake

messina_rue1003

Scream it with me…summer…Summer…SUMMER!!!!!!

The ice cream truck has been circling my neighborhood, the kids are out of school, and the weather is just a touch below 100 degrees everyday here in South Carolina. After a long, snowy winter during which I stared at my neighbor’s Christmas decorations from November to the end of FEBRUARY, I welcome the heat. For a little while at least. By July, Read More

Summer may not be here on the calendar, but can’t we go ahead and declare it the season of fun, of parties, of laid-backness?  With a Memorial Day celebration (and a birthday thrown in for good measure) that spanned the weekend, I am officially in summer holiday mode.

So how will you celebrate Read More

Silver Dotted Wedding Cake

polka dots

Do you remember my recent moaning and groaning about unoriginal wedding colors? Well since then I have seen a bevy of gorgeous color schemes. Like grey and light pink and lilac, grey and plum. We can now add Silver and Eggplant to that list as well. I am noticing a grey theme…and I kind of love it!

This cake makes my insides all happy! The sparkling metallic Read More

Philadelphia Wedding Cake

Philadelphis Cake

I’ll admit I don’t know much about Philadelphia. Rocky, cheese steak sandwiches, and that it’s where the Fresh Prince was born and raised. (And spent most of his days on the playground from what I hear).

Another thing I know about Philadelphia is that is home to the LOVE statue. You know the one.I learned something new about Philadelphia today. Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculpture and the city of Philadelphia inspired this gorgeous wedding cake. This three tiered Read More

Frosted Fruit Wedding Cake

Frosted Fruit Wedding Cake

Let’s take a trip back in time, shall we?  Back to a quaint time, called…the nineties.  Like, the 1990s.

I love Martha Stewart.  Have I mentioned that?  At least, I love her ideas, and how she transformed gracious, beautiful living into something everyone wanted to embrace.  And one of my very favorite ideas that I gleaned from Martha was the use of fruit or flowers to embellish and garnish cakes.

Now, I realize she didn’t invent the practice, but I believe she certainly went a long way Read More

Silhouette Cake

IMG_2125

I’m a woman of many hats. I’m a mom, wife, blogger, teacher, sewer and DIYer. There are lots of things I like to do..and I spend lots of time on the interwebs looking for inspiration (lesson plans, sewing patterns, house decorating). Some might say too much time.
Recently I saw everyone talking about the Pinterest website. It took me a few weeks and then after a gentle nudge from my friend AJ at the Disney Food Blog I requested my invite. A few days ago I got my official invitation and it’s been ALL downhill from there. There are wedding cakes ALL over that piece.

I have scoured pages & pages of wedding cakes. From big wedding websites, to small bakeries they are tons and tons and tons of cakes and I cannot wait to start featuring my favorites. So I am going to start here.. Read More

Red Poppy Cake

Poppy Cake

Poppies make me happy…real or fake. So this cake, made by the talented Anne Heap at Pink Cake Box, undoubtedly makes me happy. (Side note, I also have a friend who recently named her daughter Poppy…which has thus inspired this Poppy-themed post).

Sweet and simple, this two-tiered round cake keeps it minimalistic with a smooth, white buttercream frosting and dark chocolate piping at the base. The red poppies give this cake a little pinch of modern. It’s a nice alternative to fondant Read More

White Cake with Chocolate Scroll Work, Take Two!

Wedding at The Springdale House and Garden

You’re not dreaming. I believe it was just last week when I said that I had never seen a light cake with chocolate designs before. Well, if I had a hat I’d eat it.

It was also last week that I declared my love for hot pink gerbera daisies (again).

This week all my dreams have come true. Because here is a white
